@tim I’m not sure, but it was just a feeling of deep peace and fulfillment inside. A cessation of wanting and craving, agitation and anger. There was a deep place within me that I could go to that was safe. And a feeling of oneness with everyone and everything around me.

@tim Yes, the cessation of craving, agitation and anger seems to be pretty much permanent, as is the sense of peace and contentment. The sense of 'oneness' with everything seems to come and go in waves. I don't seek it, but I experience it frequently enough.

I am posting music for meditation that I have discovered, curated by The Slow Music Movement and found on BandCamp. I don't think there's anything 'wrong' or 'inferior' about meditating with music. It's not a substitute for silent meditation, but an adjunct. I like to start with either music or guided meditation, and then go into silent meditation. To discover it yourself, go to https://www.theslowmusicmovement.org All Other Voices Gone, Only Yours Remainshttps://iikki.bandcamp.com/album/all-other-voices-gone-only-yours-remains

Tonight’s meditation: listening to the rain cool down this overheated city.

If I had to create a shrine for Buddhist Naturalism, it would be a potted tree. There might not even be a Buddha figure underneath. I would meditate in front of it, contemplating the interconnectedness of life on earth, and my ethical obligation to care for it.

It took Galileo and Newton to replace God in Christianity. It took Quantum Field Theory to replace Buddhism. That's a remarkable achievement all around. https://engagedharma.net/2019/07/26/toward-a-unified-field-theory-of-self-and-world-part-3/

I've noticed a change in my meditation lately. I'm starting to feel a fairly strong sense of empowerment as my mind stays clear, still and stable. Now my meditation is not about calming my mind/body, although it does that. It's now about experiencing stillness and stability of mind, and the sense of power and strength that it generates.

@scribe Yes, a bit. I feel a stronger sense of concentration and focused energy. Culadasa’s The Mind Illuminated calls this the 5th & 6th stages of meditation. Calming ‘dullness’ is replaced by an increasing sense of focused energy. I never expected to reach this stage of meditation. I wasn’t even trying.

Buddhism-as-a-religion is no longer necessary. If you're looking for answers for your life or a 'path' to perfect enlightenment, yes, Buddhism offers that. But I've become disenchanted with both answers and enlightenment. I've had enough of both. Buddhism is not about answers anymore, it's about questions; answers in the form of questions. It's about asking strange and non-intuitive questions; questions that give the vaguest answers which only provoke more questions.

@scribe Delivery as a service is not new. We used to get farm dairy products delivered by milk trucks. Grocery stores delivered groceries as a courtesy. I use Instacart for goods from the supermarket because it reduces the number of trips I have to make in a week. I stopped driving because I have cataracts. Instacart keeps me out of a car so I don’t hurt myself or someone else. Lots of elderly people would really appreciate having their groceries delivered and would gladly pay for it.

Hi Folks: I'm letting you know that I can't keep paying the $5 EU a month to masto.host for the Dharma Realm. It's really that bad. I have to end all monthly payments. So if someone or a group of people wants to take over the Dharma Realm, ganesha.masto.host, please let me know and we'll make the transfer. Otherwise, this instance will shut down in September.

So the bill was paid (today) for August to keep the lights on. But I'm notifying masto.host that its the last payment. Unless someone else takes over this instance, it will shut down on Sept. 11. So perhaps it's time to say our goodbyes and farewells.

"To find a buddha, all you have to do is see your nature. Your nature is the buddha. And the buddha is the person who's free, free of plans, free of cares. If you don't see your nature and run around all day looking somewhere else, you'll never find a buddha." — Bodhidharma

@tim @scribe Sure. I need someone to take over responsibility for this instance. I can't come up with the $5 Euro on a monthly basis. I would be happy to contribute, but someone else needs to hold the account.I have already told Hugo (masto.host) that I will either transfer ownership or shut down. He has scheduled shut down for Sept. 10. All data will be erased 24 hrs later.

Today I led a discussion with Buddhists on ‘Ditching the Raft’, i.e. letting go of Buddhist dharma when we no longer need it, esp. when modern science and social science does a better job of explaining things than ancient texts do. Evolution, modern psychology, quantum field theory, ecology and systems theory all do a better job of explaining cosmology than the dharma does. I don’t need Iron Age explanations of how the world is.

What Buddhism does is provide me as a practitioner with a personal experience of the interconnectedness, an experience that can be connected to a spiritual sense of connectedness and an ethics for actualizing that connectedness in the world. So that’s what I want from Buddhism. I just want to keep that awareness and experience of one-ness and connectedness.
