Image today is *Heads nor tails*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. Exploring the concept of the "one and more" series further, looking at full body shapes and not just faces (although I will come back to faces). #believeinfilm #multipleexposure #experimentalphotography

Image of the day is *Squared*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. In this session, the model and I wanted to explore gender ambiguity and this is one of the ways that we did that, emphasizing "male" associated poses. #believeinfilm

Image of the day is *Blooming*, and in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. I have found since running this project that models who have body image issues are more forgiving (or indeed loving) of textured images of themselves. Such was the case here with Julie. #believeinfilm

Image of the day is *Just the Bust*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. This is the second time that I have tried this pose with Lara. The first one was on a whim, when she stretched her arms back to prepare for a pose and I asked her to stop there. I felt that the photo without the arms created a degree of abstraction that was worth exploring. The lighting on that image wasn't entirely to my liking however, so we tried again. I'm quite please with how this new one came out. I've been reading about the history of nude photography a lot and in particularly the seeking for shapes in the human body, and I think this is definitely a direction I want to explore further. #believeinfilm #multipleexposure #nsfw #bnw #blackandwhite

Image of the day is *Framed*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. This session with Aurore was magical, yielding amazing results including this unbelievable alignment of branches and neck... #believeinfilm #experimentalphotography #blackandwhite #multipleexposure

Image of the day is *Mélancolie*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. I love it when the texture and the model respond to each other in some way. Here, I find the melancholy look on Aurore's face to suggest an automnal feel reinforced by the tree leaves at the bottom of the silhouette. Even if these were shot at the height of summer! #believeinfilm #multipleexposure #ilfordfilm #ilfordfp4 #nsfw #bnw #artphotography #experimental #experimentalphotography#blackandwhite

*Dramatic*Spotmatic F + Rollei 100⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀(In the late spring and early summer I unearthed a few old cameras and shot various B&W films with them. This week I'll be sharing results from those shoots.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The Spotmatic F was my first proper film camera, bought on ebay back in 2011 or so. When that roll of Rollei 100 came back from the lab I marveled at how great the images looked. It's probably due un part to the nice lens I've got tacked onto it, but it's also refreshing that after 10 years of not being used it still works like a charm. I took it with me in London to finish a roll of what was mostly family and friends portraits, and this image really struck me as a keeper. What do you think ?#believeinfilm #street #london #rollei

Image of the day is *Six-Legged*, an in-camera #multipleexposure on #film. This image is probably the closest in concept to Yva's Danse without being a straight copy. It's got that slightly chaotic superimposition. I wish I'd paid more attention to the positioning of the arms, which means I'll have to do a few more attempts, but still, I find the concept quite promising. #believeinfilm #concept #blackandwhite #nsfw

Kelena Foly by Cheick Tidiane Seck. I discovered Cheick Tidiane Seck by chance last year when I bought Timbuktu purely on the basis of the album cover (drawn by Brüno, one of my favourite graphic artists) and I was impressed by his chops and his ability to blend African motifs seemlessly with jazz markers. So when I saw Kelena Foly, despite a small apprehension due to the fact that it was a solo piano album (always an arduous proposition), I purchased it. And I'm not getting it. Or rather, I don't think it works. Cheick Tidiane Seck plays a very simple music, with very limited harmonic or rhythmic variations, with no singing and only a few declamations throughout. It's just too dry to appeal to my ears. It could very well be that I completely missed what I should have perceived, but I'm not getting it. #music #jazz #africa #mandingue

Today's image is *Higher and higher*, an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. Another image I never released. I don't do enough "alternative framing", ie. actively trying to frame the portraits differently. When I do, it often fails, but occasionally works, and the more I try, the more often it works. This is an example of when it works. I like how the "lateral treetop" eats into most of the back and head of M. yet still shows the main facial features. #believeinfilm #nsfw #fp4party#photography #experimental

*Ivy Pose* is an in-camera #doubleexposure on #film. I'd forgotten about this photo. It was taken at a low moment in my life when I was stuck in Europe and didn't know when I could get home to Hong-Kong due to changes in COVID quarantine rules. I first messed up an entire session by underexposing the entire roll of portraits. A few weeks later the same models agreed to try it again, and I got some really great images. Which did a world of good to my morale. Creativity is a grand medecine. #believeinfilm #nsfw #fp4party#experimentalphotography#photography #portrait

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman. This is the second book in the Thursday Murder Club series, and I was honestly expecting to find it not as good as the first one. The first one had a wonky plot but delightful characters, and the second one, in a way, is no different and yet... I couldn't put it down. When I bought it I needed something light and easy to read, and it delivered. There's an element of guilty pleasure, but honestly the book made me laugh, exhilarated and keen to read more all at the same time. Bring it on, guilty pleasure ! #novel #whodunnit #thriller #feelgood

The Blues and the Abstract Truth by Oliver Nelson. I had only heard of Oliver Nelson and was convinced his jazz was strange and hard to get into. This may be true of later albums, but The Blues and the Abstract Truth is both very modern for its time and very accessible to the casual listener. While it twists and plays around with the blues form, it stays true to its sound, which grounds it very nicely indeed. I don't know where I heard the opener "Stolen Moments", but I clearly heard it before, and it's stellar. The rest of the album is equally good, with a line-up of stellar musicians, all of whom became luminaries of jazz. Most excellent. #music #jazz

Image of the day is *Radiant*, a multiple Exposure on Ilford FP4+ film.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀One of the last challenges to overcome with this project is the background. It's getting lit by the flashlights so many times (9 in this instance, my Canon won't do more than 9x exposures) that it turns mushy grey. I now have a new background that supposedly does not reflect light, we'll see how that helps. Meanwhile, some of the images are still stunning (I think like this one of Marie which evokes a stylised sun to me... #believeinfilm #photography #blackandwhite #multipleexposure #film #experimental #portrait #nudeSensitive: frontal female nudity

Image of the day is *Central Mystery*, an in-camera double exposure on Ilford FP4+ film⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀At first I didn't know what to think of this image. I love the contrast on the leaves, shot in Berlin's botanical garden, but I wasn't sure about this triangle of darkness in the middle. But then I realised that that's what draws the viewer in, this mysterious central triangle...
