@jwildeboerAccording to this site, kitchen paper is not of much worth against sars-cov-2 https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/paper-towel-effective-against-viruses-diy-mask/

@jwildeboer I'm trying to weight in on the costs vs benefits.

@jwildeboerIt's 0.1 microns, and yeah, you kind of do need, because the smaller droplets are about that size and are so light that air pressure and movement prevent them from immediately falling to the ground and are kept in the air, being breathed in...

@jwildeboer what's scary about sars-cov-2 is lung infection, especially alveoli cells (it targets ACE2 receptors, which they have) where it can cause pneumonia, which is where the very dangerous possibility of death resides and the reason for the need of ventilators, thinking about this makes me wonder about the safety of the mask recommendations, they look a bit like a red herring in order to reserve those that are effective for the health professionals (ok by me, but I prefer it straightfwd)

@jwildeboer we need re-usable N95 level cheap masks /en masse/ in these situations, but not for everyday life.

@jwildeboer I don't know if you saw this NHK World report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBvFkQizTT4&t=196s but the small droplets are very scary indoors.

@jwildeboerThat is a quite absurd and irresponsible statement, IMHO, as it conflates two very distinct issues, and reduces the importance of the harm of anti vaxxers. Sorry, but there's no way I could agree with that.

@jwildeboerIt's not a discussion, anti vaxxers cause real harm. Citizen control also causes real harm. The way this virus spreads so easily, they should instead invest in capacitating health support networks. For years the capitalist society has treated health as a business; that is no longer viable, a huge investment in capacity is a requirement of a strongly interconnected works, where viruses can spread easily. That has no economic incentive for a business.

@jwildeboerI don't think any country should have a tracking app, they should have a receiving infrastructure. The app should be Free Software, follow a good protocol (Google+Apple, revised, seems to be), and then you as a citizen of country X voluntarily join up and define which endpoint to use, in your case, Germany's. Otherwise, no it's not really acceptable... The risks for abuse are huge.

@jwildeboerStill in time to get back to the top if the latest news are true... Short of a vaccine and/or a treatment all that's left is controlled spreading in hopes that we develop some sort of group immunity without breaking the capitalism-thinned health services...

@jwildeboerThat seems unfair, AFAICT, as masks protect others from the wearer more than they protect the wearer... They're all about herd protection, in lack of herd immunity.

#publicmoneypubliccode in #Portugal, both app and server side components of #covid19 tracking app published. Still missing: the Google and Apple parts. Code is here: https://github.com/stayawayinesctec

@jwildeboerIf by that you mean that you're happy that I'm happy that there's more Free Software code, but the fight ain't over yet, then good for you! Other than that, I would have to ask where has Jan been taken to, and who are you with my friend's face? ;)

@jwildeboer that's just a technicality, you know how this works. They go to somewhat obscure meetings, they make unpopular resolutions and decisions, and suddenly EC submits a directive proposal, written by someone else, as if there is a broad consensus that something needs to be done.

@webmink oh if only I wasn't completely driven out of advocacy because my blood absolutely boils with the thought of dealing with politicians... I've just heard your interview on #Fossifed and I'm absolutely appalled. So many dozens and dozens of years and still we're having to fight the same misconceptions that are hurting people's software freedom.I'll have to read more about those directives, any good pointers?
