I’ll be dual-booting macOS and #Linux on my 2014 27” #iMac as soon as I get a new SSD.Pro Tip: before erasing #macOS, #calibrate your display with the advanced settings turned on and save the .icc file to apply to your Linux installation so you get accurate colors. Pro Tip 2: Be aware that first-gen 27” 5k Retina iMacs will only support 4K resolution in Linux

@thelinuxEXP I found Zorin interesting, but since they are still rocking GNOME 3.38 underneath it all, I moved on. Looking forward to Zorin 17.

I'm tired of #Apple taking a monthly $40 bite out of my wallet. I'm also tired of the poor performance from my budget #Synology NAS and the fact that I can't make it any faster without buying a new one. Y'all know what that means: I'm building my own NAS. What's held me up until this point is the lack of a decent alternative to Apple Photos or Synology Photos.I think my wait is over. I did a small trial of #immich, and WOW! @10leej Honestly the most expensive part will be the hard drives. I’m planning on using an N100 ITX board with a Jonesbo case as my needs are modest - just #Immich, #Nextcloud, #Jellyfin, and maybe the #Omada controller software. I run #PiHole and #HomeAssistant on their own Raspberry Pi’s because I don’t believe in putting all of your eggs in one basket (NASket?)#HomeLab

@BrodieOnLinux I do wonder what he means. Plasma 6 runs fine on my 2011 2nd-gen Core i3 ThinkPad T420i. Sure, it’s sluggish, but it’s entirely useable.

All USB-C cables are NOT created equal! My solution? Color-coded cable ties. I test a cable by attaching my external SSD and running `lsusb -t` in Linux, which reports the negotiated speed:480M: USB 2.05000M: USB 3.2 Gen 1, 4.8Gb/s10000M: USB 3.2 Gen 2x1, 10Gb/s20000M: USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, 20Gb/sI assigned a color to each speed, wrote it down in #Joplin, attached my cable ties, and now I no longer have to worry about a USB-C cable turning my SSD into an HDD.#USBC #Linux #USB
