@TheMadPirate @xianc78 "Inheritance" tax is meant to kick down middle class families that knock on the door of wealth. Wealthy families rarely pay it. It is easy to dodge if you plan for it. Whole life insurance is a common way to dodge it. Life insurance proceeds aren't taxed, so you just put all your assets in a whole life insurance policy, and they pass untaxed to your heirs.Income tax is also really bad because it skews incentives. Work hard, earn more, but really earn less because your tax rate just went up.

"Enshittification" has been trending lately.I'll be direct. "Enshittification" has been happening due to overregulation of US capital markets.Enshittification is a new term for an old phenomenon. Product focused entrepreneurs build companies. Those companies get successful, and then business-type managers take over. The MBAs make decisions that increase the profitability of the company, but often at the expense of the product. Any remaining product-focused employees will leave the company. The product will get worse and worse over time. Why does this happen?Our capital markets are over regulated. It is impossible for ordinary people to invest in startups. In order for regular people to invest, a company must be "public." Being public requires adherence to an ever-increasing number of regulations. Complying with regulations costs money, so only the largest companies will choose to become public. Who funds small companies? By law, only "accredited investors" are allowed to invest in private companies or hedge funds. No big deal right, just take a class and become accredited! Why don't more people do this? The term is intentionally misleading. An "accredited investor," by law, is an investor that has a net worth exceeding $1 million, excluding the investor's primary residence.Want to invest in an exciting new startup and maybe get rich? Too bad, you're poor, you can't invest. Only people who are already rich can buy that kind of lottery ticket. Poor people are welcome to buy as many state-run lottery tickets as they want, with half the money coming off the top directly to the government, and then the winnings taxed by both the state and federal governments. But can poor people pool their money and invest in a promising startup? No, only wealthy people are allowed to do this. The government justifies this as "protecting unsophisticated investors." It's bullshit. They are protecting wealthy investors. They are protecting hedge funds. They are screwing the little guys.So the wealthy investors make startups, build them up, and then when they are big enough, they go public. The wealthy investors sell shares to the little guys, who are happy to finally be able to buy them. The wealthy investors take their profit and do it again. And guess what? The product focused people who built the company? They are friends with the wealthy investors. They don't want to work for the little guy. They leave and partner with the wealthy investors to do it again with a new company. The little guys are left holding the bag: a big public company minus the talent needed to take the company to the next level.Now, people are noticing, so the big guys need a boogie man. So now we hear about "enshittification" and we are expected to blame capitalism. Enshittification isn't capitalism. Enshittification is corruption.Let small investors choose where to invest their money. They will mess up a lot. Let small investors make mistakes. Let smart investors make money.

@coolboymew I have to deal with this all the time. It sucks. I have a renewal with a company that used to provide up front pricing, but now I have to request a quote for the renewal. We just need our stuff to keep working, but now they are going to try to upsell.

@coolboymew @Moon According to the US constitution, "time and manner" of elections are supposed to be determined by state legislatures. What we have today is a mess of state officials making rules, courts interfering and making their own rules, and even huge county by county variances in how elections are run. And anyone who questions it is an election denier.The Democratic Party has gotten very good at manipulating elections. Even if you believe the 2020 election was on the up and up, the Democrats have stolen a Senate seat and a governorship. At minimum. Using the same exact playbook as the 2000 Gore campaign. After a huge amount of negative press, courts aren't willing to stop them anymore.
