@ThatWouldBeTelling @rayptheon There's an entire theory that the leftist hysteria of the past 8 years or so is due to the downward social mobility of people who assumed that their high-status degrees would confer upon them a secure institutional position. In order to differentiate themselves from the "lesser" whites that lack a college education, this class of person in turn engages in an almost religious devotee in order to differentiate themselves from others.I generally don't like that kind of class-centric analysis, but it seems to hold a lot of water in the case you are referring to.

@RikaDerufu I don't see how the US being incapable of maintaining a hold in Afghanistan makes them more capable of projecting power elsewhere. The hard power of the US military around the world is obviously on the decline, just because they might TRY to foment a foreign war somewhere else doesn't mean that leaving Afghanistan isn't a good thing.
