@AnungIkwe Yes, there were more modern groups in Iran, but those tended to be urban elites. Large parts of the country had vastly different views and were (and still are) incredibly conservative. The leftists made a huge mistake in allying with them because in the end, they just got devoured.

I don't want to demean the connection people have to their pets but a pet isn't a child and people who pretend it is are disconnected from reality. And to be honest, I feel awkward when people wish me a happy mother's day because sure, I have my amazing girls, but I never gave birth and never went through all the things that come with that.

@Gnomeshatecheese Partially I'd agree, but because of my background I do think that that is a useful skillset to develop. It's always good to know how to look good on pictures. Mind you, I'm not saying anything like fashion shoots or the like, but just basic angles and the like.

@polarisera @taylan And yet, Catholicism has, to me, always seemed to be a relatively compassionate religion. At least, it isn't based on the idea that everyone is sinful and evil beyond salvation like the orthodox Calvinism I grew up in. I mean, there even is space for things like works and the like!That said, it's still horrible for women like basically any religion is, but it's not the worst one by far.

@amerika @varx Cooking is what allows us to have our oversized brains. It means that we can take far more nutrients from foodstuffs. Which is why eating raw food is a great way not to gain too much weight!

@LostInCalifornia @brendamccann The whole entertainment industry is pretty interlinked but indeed, it's not only Hollywood, music, or the like. The issue with the broader industry is that it is one that elevates a few people who then have incredible power over others. And given that many of them are men, well, we all know how men react to having even a hint of power.

Sure there are moderates but those tend to be people you don't hear because they don't actually announce themselves as Muslims all the time. Just like moderate Christians. Those tend to be the people where you don't really notice until you really get to know them.

@Gnomeshatecheese One of my daughters spent a part of her life with a Muslim biological family and it's something that's been absolutely awful to her. Even teachers have reacted poorly when she spoke out to the religion and when she said that she had burned those garments the day I got her. Islam is an utterly vile cult that has achieved the nearly impossible task of being even worse for women than other religions.

Something that I believe is the hardest thing for us, as women, is to be able to trust. All our lives, we are surrounded by betrayal from those who supposedly are the closest to us. Even from women who should know exactly what we're going through. But that's the fun thing about patriarchy, it teaches us to be complicit or else. But even being compliant won't do anything to really protect ourselves. And that's why, at the moments where it feels like the whole world is out for me and all women, nothing helps as much as the support of those sisters who are honest and prove worthy of trust. I'm sorry for this dramaticness. There's been a lot going on lately.
