@tomjennings Not sure what your point is. Do you dislike the idea that people are able to show their affiliation by boosting, or are you just annoyed by all those updates abut boosts your posts receive?

@scruss @tomjennings @nina_kali_nina @tomjennings @nina_kali_nina Fast? Not really. Most of the time it was about getting capacity up and price down. All the weired early stuff, like delay lines, were about (some) storage at an affordable price. Same for serial memories and so on.In fact, even most early semiconductor memory was all about price, not speed or capacity. It's a constant issue that emerging technologies are usually slower than older ones. The very reason why core memory was still kind in the mid 1970s when smaller and slower machines were already using semiconductor storage.

@tomjennings @scruss @nina_kali_nina Not really, as delay lines, drum and even core predates tapes. Tapes are about mass storage with fast sequential access - punch cards on steroids :)

@tomjennings It just brings the same downside as any desktop or laptop or whatever computer - 'cause that's what it is. (Ad-)Tracking is not based on your phone number (except with Whatsap, Telegram, etc.), and it doesn't need to be, as that part is already 'well' developed without. Fingerprinting is made in a way that changing wifi networks won't interfere at all. Having a static address or not doesn't matter. So yes, you can switch the Nokia off and be off the direct traceable phone grid, disabling that way of tracking you, but the ad networks will still see you when you go online, no matter where. And I bet they are willing to sell that data to whoever pays (or orders) them. This can only be _somewhat_ reduced by not using the web/a browser. Specialized apps, throughout checked may avoid that fingerprinting to some degree. But that's a lot of limitation. The basic nature hasn't changed since stone age: A soon as you're communicating, unwanted parties may listen. Any measure may only reduce that risk _a bit_.

@tomjennings New port doesn't mean new functionality as changing ports was always a choice. All of that can be done on 80 or 443 as well.
