@magicalthinking @FantasticalEconomics Remove private money from the equation. It's not even about "saving" democracy because the US is not a democracy. That is a façade. The US is a 100% Plutocracy. $$ decides policy for BOTH the major parties so "elections" are effectively irrelevant. Different colors of lipstick on the same pig.🤷 Campaign finance should be 100% Treasury financed & ALL lobbying should be documented/public AND balanced by equal (in number & budget) opposing representation.++

@davidrevoy I would write back to kindly suggest that if they want stories about their own family, they should write them, & that this story was about Torreya & Shichimi & Pepper. 🤷 And that they & "many conservative parents worldwide" should maybe just lock up their kids & never let them out to see the rest of the wide, wide world.

And only Meta knows what they will then do with it or who they will sell it on to. All the User is paying for is for THEM to not see the ads specifically from META.

@ChrisMayLA6 @h4890 The downhill slide of any eventual AI profitability has been on the cards for a while now. The reaction of the big "AI" corps has been to be "even bigger" by putting their foot on the gas, investing *even more* & thus accelerating downhill even faster! If it happens this term, I believe US money will bail out the most govt-friendly (expect excessive grovelling) which will swallow the others but IMO the clever money is in China.

@futurebird Depends on the climate. I was without a fridge for a year. Summer meant more regular small shopping trips, winter was easier as I just had a box on the balcony. (Taught me: I think we should all do this & turn off our fridge–in our *heated* kitchens–in winter. The drawback is needing a freezer.) Thinking of downgrading my "smart" phone as I use it sparingly. (No banking apps – my life savings in my pocket or on the table at the pub? No thanks.) Not a fan of the tracking either.
