@greyknight33 not in the military but all the firepower in the world won't do you any good if your not able to be accurate and hit said target. The same reason I set my wife up with a 9mm pistol instead of a 45; she isn't accurate with a 45 but she is with a 9mm.

@greyknight33 idk if a 45 is any more effective than a 9mm against a bear once you consider the velocity, bullet mass, and bullet surface area of contact. For a bear I'd bet penetration is key. Not sure if either one would penetrate.

@greyknight33 for handguns you want at least 44 mag. Rifle is the best thing to have no matter the distance. Put holes in arteries and organs to cause as much blood loss and blood pressure drop as possible. That's how you kill things. Pistol rounds barely kill humans, they aren't ideal for grizzlies. They're better than a stick or knife but I'd take a rifle any day over a handgun. The only advantage a handgun would have is if it's on top of you. But you're probably screwed by that point anyway.

@Jagahati @BobbyGears exactly. I've had to fire a few people with HR and most of them were because people started using legal terms in their complaints. Sets off red flags and our lawyers begin advising what we do and we then basically do exactly what the lawyer tells us. All forms of compromise and working it out, go out the window at that point.

@Jagahati @BobbyGears I actually saved someone because he was telling me he was meeting with a lawyer (over a spat with another employee), I told his supervisor to tell him to knock it off with that talk or he's going to be out of here. He is a good employee so I didn't want to see him get canned over something stupid.

@greyknight33 I suppose it depends on "stopping power" definition. CPL defense classes teach to continue shooting (human attackers) until they are incapacitated/no longer a threat. When things die/cease attacking, it's due to severe blood pressure drop which is due to massive blood loss. I suppose adrenaline could allow them to overcome low blood pressure and continue attacking but I'm not sure I guess. Hopefully neither of us encounter a human or animal attacker that requires using guns.

@PeteyMiami lot of pfas are from airports and manufacturing iirc. So just don't live in those areas? Also if recommend a water filtration system for your home anyway to remove fluoride or other nasty chemicals. The Alexa pure does a good job. Fluoride seems difficult to remove but it removes 92% of it so I imagine it would do well with pfas?

@eriner I self host stuff for myself but I have no idea about the proper practices and tools for security etc. I've just piecemealed info together for the last few years to run my emby media server and nextcloud.What online courses or resources would you recommend for me to get up to speed on sys admin stuff (in my mind this is managing the server, knowing which tools are right for which situation, etc) (1/2)

@eriner (2/2) server security, and networking information such as application of reverse proxies (maybe this falls under security).I've got a background and degree in mechanical engineering so I have a foundation to build upon, just frustrating trying to piecemeal info together online. I guess that's why a structured degree at a university is beneficial?

@Sabex changed my ssh port already and deactivated passwords - keys only. Tripwire being a commercial threat detection software for servers?I should look into the firewall bit. I know some but not enough. I have Debian set to security only auto updates, nextcloud does security updated automatically, emby I do manually because it doesn't offer such an option.

@Sabex Web server would be apache correct? Example of an internal server? Reverse proxies are something I'm still trying to wrap my head around. I think I need a more manual setup so I can actually learn the mechanics of it rather than something automated like caddy 2. @Sophistifunk I especially enjoy his ideas of gun control and pro affirmative action. The dude is being hyped just as DeSantos was early on. The only good thing about RFK jr is he is anti vaxx/pharma, and anti gmo food etc. That's the only common ground. This isn't personal, I'm just so tired of hearing people propped up because they share one common opinion. But I guess that speaks volumes of modern societies.
