@EU_Commission Speaking of flying, it'd be nice to also have EASA here :)

@stux Yeah! We used to do Buy Nothing Day events back here in Finland with our environmentalist group twenty years back already. That was at least a decade before the Black Friday catastrophe was imported here, too; it was mostly against the start of the Christmas overconsumption season. I kind of long for that innocent time :D

@stux The way I'd do this would be as follows:1) Create a directory /etc/systemd/system/pgbouncer.service.d2) In there, create a file filelimit.conf3) In that file, insert[Service]LimitNOFILE=16384(or some other high number)4) Say systemctl daemon-reload && systemctl restart pgbouncer5) Check that it works: sudo prlimit --pid $(ps -ef|grep pgbouncer|grep -v grep|awk '{ print $2; }') -n(the check above supposes pgbouncer only has one process, I'm not familiar with that particular daemon)

@stux Yes.There was a SciFi short story which started - "This is the ship's doctor speaking. The captain has not gone insane. I repeat, the captain has definitely not gone insane."I would be worried if I were a passenger on such a ship :-P

@stux Also keeping fingers crossed that e.g. TX electricity grid actually is better winterized now. At least they seemed confident yesterday that it should be.

@stux An egalitarian society, with collectively owned means of production, from each according to their ability and to each according to their needs, with no state to enact violence on individuals, where people are free to pursuit happiness and work for the betterment of themselves and each other - why fuck that? And what does the dictator of an authoritarian state have to do with that? The so-called dictatorship of the proletariat does not to communism lead, just another flavour of oppression.

@stux The US used to have a media regulator with some teeth. Unfortunately, Reagan happened. That was the start of conservative talk radio, and, ultimately, the current form of Fox.

@stux There's so much that could go wrong with this scenario it has actually been a SciFi trope for decades :) I seem to remember at least a couple Star Trek (original series) episodes exploring this. It *is* an interesting topic though.

@EU_Commission The EU could also support their own manufacturers. The US does that, too, with their Inflation Reduction Act.

@stux @rominator It's always the same - those with the least contact with refugees are those that are most against them.

@stux Word. The weirdest thing is the argument about "protecting the office of presidency". In what sense does it protect the office if you don't punish the individual who dragged the office through mud? That said, he seems to be getting more and more accountability headed his way. Fingers crossed some of that will stick.

@stux Yes. A local stand-up comedian pointed this out at a gig almost ten years ago: for all intents and purposes, we're living in a cyberpunk dystopia.

@EU_Commission Will it also make sure Europe won't end up destroying biodiversity and ecological corridors and native rights in eg. Lapland when building the wind power infrastructure? Speeding up permitting procedures in a situation where there's a kind of a gold rush going on for wind power seems like a short-sighted idea. I think that in a situation like this, making very sure that all projects are actually sustainable, both from an ecological and social point of view, is extremely important.
