Because bandcamp is so important to the future of music, so are its workers' efforts to form a union. Bandcamp in general has been fair & equitable to artists, let's support efforts to make it the same for workershttps://www.bandcampunited.org/

@falktx @Di4na a bit late to the party here, but i typically like to mention louigi's in-depth piece on this: https://louigiverona.com/?page=projects&s=writings&t=philosophy&a=philosophy_freedoms

@lore we go silent for all kinds of reasons. Could be lunch/dinner/a walk/a nap or .... actual work.Just wasn't much interest discussing CALF any further, nothing more.

I don't understand why there are people with sufficient technical acumen to be on Mastodon who never discovered things like Tweak New Twitter: browser add-ons that essentally make Twitter pretty much like Mastodon in terms of user experience, Add in ublock origin or something similar, along with the steve black blacklist, & you get:* no ads* only see people you follow* no trending* no algorithm* retweets from people you follow in a separate tabOh right. You're on your phones. OK then.

@falktx well, i agree with you.But I also see quite a few voices saying that Twitter is-this or is-that, apparently implying that there is only one user experience there. The user experience people here (Mastodon) want *is*, broadly speaking, available on Twitter too. But you have to make some choices and take some actions that I suspect many do not want to think about or deal with.

@tante I've spent the last 26+ yrs writing & making a living from libre software and thus have an actual financial indebtedness to a user community. In general, libre s/w devs do not work for/on behalf of anyone/any community. Their work being useful for someone is fortunate but frequently incidental. If there are communities that want s/w developed under a broader manifesto, they need to organize the resources required. As a developer, I am not here to meet somebody else's agenda.

@masha @Strandjunker the idea behind progressive tax systems is that everyone should "feel the same pain" from being taxed. Someone who earns $10k/year is going to feel a very different pain when taxed 20% than someone who earns $1M/yr. Progressive tax policy is about taxing everyone so that its "impact" on everyone is (roughly) the same, and a fixed rate doesn't do that.

@a_lex_ander @marcan >> those rejecting modern tools like GitLab are gatekeepers, Would like to mention one subtle nuance here. Over at ardour.org, we *refuse* to use non-self hosted systems like Github/Gitlab as our *canonical repository*. We believe that historical experience at sourceforge and direction at github confirm the wisdom of our preference for self-hosted options. However, we are happy to use github as a public-facing locus for PRs.

@valvin i use liferea to track things (blogs, YT channels, podcasts), but i never read/watch/listen to anything in it (always use "Open in external browser"). Vastly preferable to any non-RSS alternative I've come across so far.So, "no" but "yes" :)

After upgrading to #pipewire version 1.2.5. Finally, I am back to an audio system that works as well (or better!) than my old hand-tweaked setup with JACK1 and PulseAudio. Unlike that system, this one is fully integrated - things using any of the various Linux audio APIs are all visible and routable to each other. Latency is the same or better as I got with JACK1. Truly excellent. Good job @pipewire (and for those who don't know, I wrote JACK1, with the help of a lot of amazing people).

@dazo @mosgaard using JACK for audio/MIDI does not "mess up everything else" because pipewire implements the JACK API (library and server). As you noted, Ardour works 100% fine with Pipewire with *zero modifications to our JACK support* except for the places where there are still bugs in the pipewire implementation. There is no reason for any application using the JACK, ALSA or PulseAudio APIs to change; that was part of the entire design spec for Pipewire and it has largely met that goal.
