@iankenwayI get where this list is coming from, but these ideas could be clarified/expanded on.1. The progressive taxation they recommend would need a starting point for the upper bracket(s).2. UBI requires something like rent restrictions to really work.3. A market can only be truly free if monopolism and negative externalities are kept in check.4. "No walled gardens" might not mean the same thing to everyone.5. Sortition is a good idea, as long as it is only used to select assemblies of voters. I would recommend approval voting for all single-seat elections.

Sortition is a good idea, as long as it is only used to select assemblies of voters, not for directly selecting an official. For single-seat elections, I would also recommend that the assemblies use approval voting.

@lucifargundamFunny but misleading. This article has been paywall-free since 2020, and isn't about paywalls to begin with. It's about the *language* used in scientific publications being difficult for the general public to understand. https://www.nature.com/articles/356739a0By the way, Nature charges authors €9500 (about US$10000) to publish an article without a paywall.

@Linux_in_a_BitIt's L1 interference. They say "operativsystem" in the Continental Scandinavian languages, and "sistema operativo" in several Romance languages, including Spanish and Italian.

@evelynNo, those examples aren't the same. If an API doesn't respond, you're missing core business logic. If a font fails to load, the user agent can just default to Arial or whatever.

@Linux_in_a_Bit @alcinnz Since I'm using ProtonMail, I avoid ProtonVPN. I prefer to reduce the trust I place in a single entity when possible. The downside is that I'm trusting two vendors instead of one.

@urusan To me, the underlying issue is that justices will decide what their ruling will be first, then figure out how to support it after the fact in an opinion, using ideas like originalism, pragmatism, and even minimalism as rhetorical weapons instead of as tools to guide their decisions. It's intellectually dishonest.

@vriska I block any ads that would track me, i.e. most of them. If a content creator chooses to rely solely on unethical means of income, expecting people to allow their privacy to be violated, that's on the creator, not the user.BTW, don't use AdBlock or AdBlock Plus. Instead, I recommend uBlock Origin (the "Origin" part is important).

@urusan The problem with Manjaro is that they hold back packages, which get out of sync with the AUR, leading to the dreaded "partial upgrades". I suspect this is what happened to you.Distros like Garuda Linux and EndeavourOS avoid this problem by using up-to-date Arch packages. Garuda is the more opinionated, including things like having Timeshift configured out-of-the-box to do a system snapshot whenever you update. If you don't mind older packages, Linux Mint (my daily driver for the past several years) is a reliable choice. You get the practical benefits of an Ubuntu LTS system without the B.S. from Canonical. If you want a non-LTS release cadence, maybe try Pop!_OS.I've also heard good things about Fedora and openSUSE, but missing packages have kept me away for now. Finally, there are two Debian derivatives I'll suggest looking at: Parrot (Home Edition) and MX Linux. Both of them are based on Debian Stable but with additional backports.
