Cripes, I actually *heard* the gas explosion in #Orleans #Ottawa this morning. For some reason I was semi-awake just beforehand, and I heard the THUMP of it blowing and I knew it wasn't just a regular bang of a truck on the bypass or something.Surprised to only hear one fire engine siren. Our little depot must have been the furthest they called from.Only about 8km away from the blast, which is still a ways.

The obvious question is, WHY ARE WE STILL PIPING EXPLOSIVE GAS INTO NEW HOMES???Not only is it dangerous by itself, something we've known for a very long time, but it's toxic when used for cooking and a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. It's a bad option.Not that the province will do anything. If Doug Ford isn't getting kickbacks from the gas industry, his developer friends definitely are.

First long ride of the season, and yikes it took a lot out of me. Wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the strong headwind for most of the way back, which made the gentle slope into a not-so-gentle one. Ended up having to walk my bike up some of the hill at the St. Joseph end of the parkway.Also sucks that the parkway wasn't closed to cars like it's supposed to be. No clue why, the sign for NCC Parkway Days was up.#Ottawa #cycling #BikeOttawa

One thing I really noticed with all the climbing and fighting a headwind was just how much work my arms do in that situation. Which didn't help my shoulder, which I've been having range of motion issues with since autumn. Fortunately that didn't really become an issue until I was fairly near home and not fighting the wind any more, but it's interesting all the same.

@shacker I see it as increasing the angle of the slope by a bit, or a lot if it's a heavy wind. So that 70m elevation gain could probably be stated as 90m at least, when it comes to effort.

Something just occurred to me.In My Neighbour Totoro, Mei is the one who names the creatures "Totoro" because it's the same as "in her book". And I didn't realize for quite a while that "Totoro" was a child's mispronunciation of "troll". "To ro ru" becomes "To to ro". It's cuteBut I didn't really think until just now about what was Mei's book? What children's book about trolls would be known in Japan around that time?Moomin. It's Moomin trolls.Totoro is an off-brand Moomin.
