@stux @TonyStark I'm childfree and have no idea how to raise kids, but I can say that as someone who grew up in a time when child abductions were shockingly common, I don't know if kids of age 6 or 7 would fare too well on their own here. I do agree that more public transportation and walkable cities are needed.

@TonyStark @stux NC is still hung up on car culture, but more forms of public transit are developing in the cities. It's not just that everything is spread out and bus lines only go so far. There are also class and race issues in the mix. I think people here have tended to think that public transportation is for people who can't afford cars. The state was heavily rural since colonial times up until the 20th century; in many areas it still is. Even in cities, we're playing catchup.

@stux @TonyStark Maybe so. In some places it's just that the growth happened too fast or was poorly planned, or both. I think sometimes it's because there were corporate shenanigans holding up the construction for a long time.

@stux @TonyStark In the '70s-'80s there was a string of child abductions and murders in the USA that led to things like milk carton ads for missing children (predating Amber alerts), teaching stranger danger, and what's often called helicopter parenting. I'm old enough that my parents never did the helicopter thing, but I well remember the milk cartons and being taught never to take candy from strangers, never get in a vehicle with strangers, etc.

@TonyStark @Thunderbirds511 Yes, and WTF is up with 28% of Democrats who were polled? “The results of the poll are sharply split along partisan lines, with 72 percent of Democrats saying Trump should concede right away compared to just 16 percent of Republicans.”Has anyone reading this ever been polled? I haven’t. Who do the pollsters poll? If it’s only people who self-select, that’s a problem. If it’s only people with landlines or who answer calls from unknown numbers, that’s also a problem.

@TonyStark I can't get over the tiny desk where he sat for that photo op. He was at the kids' table for Thanksgiving.He could be dragged out of the White House while he hollers the word "rigged," if that's how he wants it to be. It won't change a damned thing.
