As I listen to the crushing news of 50+ bills being introduced across the country to prevent gender affirming surgery, I am hoping that the ACLU and progressive legal organizations step up to defy these laws and sue in states like Florida, Utah and Alabama on the basis of parental rights. If a parent consents, then their child should be able to have surgery or the the hormones they need. The state has no right to interfere with parental rights and the parental support of trans children. #trans

So, now we’ve got police going to the wrong address and shooting innocent civilians, and white civilians shooting innocent black kids who ring the wrong doorbell. The persistence of hate narratives and shoot-first-ask-questions-later knee jerk reactions show how absolutely dangerous an #NRA fueled gun society is. Their answer: More Guns! @freemo @stormy178 With children being shot, sir, you should be replying that guns should be more regulated. Demand BETTER RESTRICTIONS and background checks. Your knee jerk reaction “Don’t ya take my guns” is a sad and tired old record. It shows lack of compassion and refusal to see the crisis that we are truly in right now. For those of you who are Christian, I always wonder WWJD? If he angrily threw out the money changers imagine what he would do to the NRA.

@zleap I sincerely wish you had put as much words and effort to dissecting the specific restrictions and background checks and bans of AR15‘s that would literally save lives in this country as you enumerated the reasons why guns are AOK in and of them selves. One sentence to say yeah maybe too many guns doesn’t cut it. Do better or you’re part of the problem.

@freemo @stormy178 Cars and drivers are regulated more than guns and gun owners are. While that truth sinks in (we’ll wait), in a diagram, here’s another emotional argument you won’t win. @zack @freemo @pies Just (reluctantly) jumping in here to say that the level of gun violence in the United States does have multiple factors affecting it, poverty being one. Hatred and irrational fears being another. The point is, when you have any of those factors in play and you add guns, it’s like adding a match to a powder keg. (The match being the gun). Why would you do that?

@freemo @zack @pies Actually, I am not in agreement that guns are a small fraction. The fact that other countries with worse poverty and just as much hatred have exponentially less gun violence is because they have fewer guns. It’s not to say violence would go away if we had no guns. But the level of violence WOULD diminish. Just like if you gave someone a rock to attack children in a classroom, they’d do less damage compared to someone with an AR15.

@freemo @pies @zack What?? Most domestic violence murders are committed with guns. How do more guns prevent that? Or stop corrupt police who shoot totally unarmed people? Are you saying if we OK Corral it and wives had guns and ALL citizens could shoot back at bad cops it would be a safer, better world? I mean, just following your More Guns are Better in a Gun Killing Environment logic. Where and when would the shooting end?

My parents were young CORE workers. Never forget the murder of 3 Civil Rights workers in Mississippi in 1964. The case drew national attention because 2 of the men were White. Due to 200 FBI searching for them, the bodies of other missing Black men were found. Never forget the murders were planned by a sheriff and Baptist minister in the KKK. Make no mistake. The SCOTUS rulings are a long planned effort to set back, diminish and disenfranchise women, people of color and LGBTQ+. The rulings effectively undermine generations: couples, parents, children, families. They believe this will weaken us so they can take power and money without a fight. Little do they know who they’ve fucked with. And how powerful we are when we’re cornered, united and have a righteous cause.
