@AtheistIntelligence @mansr As a sociologist, I would have to disagree w/ the statement "we aren't our beliefs." As an atheist, I agree that religious constructs can be wacky, but as a scientist, I have to point out that they are also tools at the foundation of societies (esp. early societies).Many people have a hard time separating themselves from that social structure, even when the structure is so obviously wrong, outdated and flawed.

@mansr @AtheistIntelligence Religious beliefs didn't just provide morality as a quasi-judicial system though. It formed the basis of health foundations in the absence of early healers and scientists. Religions banned foods and sex practices which were notorious for killing people, prior to science discovering the whys of things. The problem (imo) w/ religion today is the unwillingness of faithful to explore toxic habits & harmful traditions. Religion could be a benign hobby, but its not.

@mansr @AtheistIntelligence Exactly! The habits are so ingrained, and the traditions so "sacred" that they remain unexplored for may "people of faith." As opposed to the situation being: "This (religion/religious practice) is something that I am really into." it becomes "This is the ONLY way and you are WRONG, and you must be PUNISHED!"

I'm constantly surprised at the number of people who are looking for lists of people to follow. There's no shortage of fascinating breadcrumb trails here. Pick a toot that resonates with you and open it up. See who commented, or retooted it. Look at those people's profiles. Follow them. Look at their older toots and follow the people whose comments on those toots pique your interest.I've been here a month & have a global circle, not one of whom I knew before coming here. #IFollowTheCrumbs

@jxself I was 3 or 4. We were having a picnic at the local park and I spilled my cup of grape soda on the grass. My dad told me the grass would grow purple in that spot. I looked for the purple grass every time I walked past the park. For months. 🥴

@mansr Not all the way through. I did try. I find Adams' writing style very hard to read. I love his stories, and I am an avid reader. I just don't care for his style. Which is a shame, because I am left out of the source material, which I know differs from the shows and movies.

Wondering: where's the toots on the interracial marriage part of today's ruling in the USA? I get there's protections afforded for LGBTQIA+ people (doesn't go far enough imo) but I've not seen ONE person mention anything but queer rights today.For context, I'm queer, but I am also an ally to many other marginalized groups. @gwangung I think you're right that the anti-Blackness or anti-Asianness, or whatever race-based bigotry is employed (in this country, laws prohibiting Black people marrying white people was the prevalent) is more complex. Because skin color is readily apparent.@sgt1372 re: Loving, that's exactly why they added it to the current bill. Because Roe v Wade was overturned. And there are so many right now who would roll back both Loving and Obergefell in a heartbeat if elected. 😪 @cwebbtampa

@joshsusser my partner stopped paying for YouTube premium because he refuses to financially support them since they deplatformed people who talk about suicide - he feels passionately this topic should be open for discussion. Now we are constantly assaulted with "LIBERTY, LIBERTY,...LIBERTEEEY" and I will never use Liberty Mutual Insurance company because the jingle is constant and grating and loud AF. @joshsusser ugh, sorry 😩 🤦♀️ But thank you for the argument that I can use to get him to buy the ad-skip again. It is so brutal to deal with. Honestly. This is the man who cannot leave the house without ear plugs because the entire world assaults him with sensory overload. I will try to argue the point of view you presented. I hope it works.
