Reminder: if you actually look at who has been getting laid off in the tech industry and talk to these folks, you very quickly realize performance doesn't play any role in most of these decisions. Most of the people getting laid off have been laid off at random irregardless of their performance.So like, begging other folks in the industry to understand: your performance isn't going to save you, only direct action will.

Please remember as well: if you are a publicly traded company, your managers may mean well - but realistically they and no one else above them have any say in these decisions. It is Literally illegal to say no to investors so long as they can come up with even a _guess_ that confirms And trust me - your investors aren't smart enough to be trusted to make the right decision.

also I feel I should note "man how does Lyude get to go to Sweden all the time isn't that expensive"welcome to Boston my round trip flight to/from Copenhagen (I take a train to Malmö after) was ~$650. You might be able to go lower if you book earlier then I did since I saw around $450 (not even joking) at some point.

@ML2 I work for red hat but honestly try fedora. I tried it out when I joined and honestly I wouldn't stop using it if I left, it is all the good parts of Ubuntu but we maintain packages actually and don't break things every single upgrade.

please I am begging you to consider that "go to a different project" does not solve the problem of "you are driving away contributors by using a mailing list"Like do you want developers or not? Do you want to have a bus count of >1 or what? That's the question. Not someone's personal preference, because as far as I can tell new programmers are not coming into the field going "wow email is my favorite workflow". I have never, at any point, ever seen this in the last few years

"go to a different project" if you want to make those sacrifices for your project that's fine but folks like me kind of would prefer projects like the Linux kernel actually keep going. And that isn't happening without new contributors. That's the facts.
