I can't wait until MacOS 27 when we see the final evolution of Liquid Glass - Aqua. I hear it will be quite lickable.

I sometimes half jokingly say I “Manage by PTSD” at work. Corpo-America wants leaders who appear strong by standing firm and not letting subordinates question them and their direction. I hated it when I was told, “Because I’m your line manager and I told you so” when I asked why something was. I hated being treated like an idiot, not being told the whole story about what was going on someplace I worked, as it I wasn’t savvy enough to know the truth and make decisions for myself. When I’ve made big changes at work, I’ve let my whole team, and even the extended engineering org question me. Sometimes I learn something, sometimes they learn something. But it builds credibility. While I can’t tell everyone everything, I look back on my history and remember when I was treated like crap or wasn’t trusted with information that would’ve helped me make better career decisions. I think I’m always going to come across as earnest or (hopefully endearingly) cheesy, no matter what I do. I think that’s preferable to being stoic or acting as though my role is self glorification rather than trying to provide a safe, healthy place for folks on my team to work. Yeah, this is on my mind early on a Sunday morning. Was reading through some old journal stuff I wrote about 21 years ago on how in the dark I felt, how undervalued I felt week after week, and how I feared a director at Compaq coming into my lab. I just wanted to be left alone to do my work and hope I could keep the paychecks coming. I truly never want anyone to feel like I did back then. I passed through it, and it likely made me stronger, but there are other ways to build strength than abuse or neglect, and I really don’t want anyone I interact with to ever have to feel what I felt. To be made promises that if I did X, I’d get Y, just to do my part, have it acknowledged as having been met, and get terminated anyway. Or being told by one of my managers that they don’t know how I can trust folks on my team when they trust no one on the entire team at large. A lot of this stuff is just floating around Burr Brain and regularly influences my interactions with folks. I like to check to make sure they feel listened to, even if I know some won’t be 100% with me because of role differences. It’s not just that I want to try to treat people decently, it’s that I’m sensitive (maybe too sensitive) about trying to make sure that folks feel respected and that trust can be built, not because of my position, but because of my character and what I actually do. It was crushing in the early 2000s when gay jokes were common and me and a couple others knew that coming out was “career limiting” or when I saw managers knowingly avoid hiring women because they “wouldn’t fit in a tech culture.”I hope I disappoint all of those backwards folks every day I sign in for work.

@ratpile Great question! A few ways to discover content on tales.tiggi.es:Reader - Click "Reader" in the top nav to see recent public posts from everyone on the instance (like a local timeline for writing!)Browse blogs - Visit https://tales.tiggi.es/read to see all public blogsDirect URLs - If you know someone's username, go to tales.tiggi.es/usernameVia fediverse - Follow writers from Mastodon using @username@tales.tiggi.es and their posts appear in your timeline. The Reader is the main discovery tool—think of it like Mastodon's local timeline but for long-form stories. Right now it's pretty quiet since we just launched, but it'll fill up as more writers join.

Got a call with Caller ID saying it's from my Credit Union. They told me there was an account breach. In a very Indian accent.I asked if it was a breach or an incident. He told me it was a breach.I asked what of my data had been exfiltrated. He said third parties had access to all of my personal info and that they needed to verify some of my information before resuming with the disclosures.I told him I would call my credit union back to make sure there was a legit problem."Sir, you must read the caller ID, we are from your credit union!"Yeah, Caller ID can be spoofed. Both number and name. AAMOF, I have an app I've done it with as a prank. <click>Just remember, folks, Caller ID name and number CAN be spoofed. Always tell someone who claims to be from a financial institution that you'll call them back.

I’d like to live in a world again where folks don’t conflate experience with content. Content is nearly infinitely scalable and immediately available. Real experience has texture. It’s often not completely repeatable. It can’t be played at 2x speed. But it feels like we’re undergoing cultural amnesia of what real experiences are, and many today don’t understand or care about or value the quality of genuine experiences. I met a fur who told me that anything worth doing or seeing would eventually be available in VR. Why bother traveling or going someplace that didn’t have his favorite chimkin nuggies and Dr. Pepper? Sounds inconvenient. I couldn’t (and wouldn’t try) to discuss this because our value systems were too far apart. He’d been programmed to consume and value content over experience, because experience is inconvenient. Smells, feels, textures, tangible and intangible qualities that a VR set doesn’t provide just don’t matter. And corporations love people programmed to consume content as tantamount to real experiences, minus the “ick.” Maybe I’m getting old, but I really miss having conversations with folks on things we’ve both experienced vs things we’ve both consumed. And vacation spots or sites being just a more vivid extension of content previously consumed. This is why even Disney and Universal get away with screen rides. They’re cheaper to make and maintain, and many folks can’t tell the difference between those and more practical experiences. It’s not completely gone, but content as experience seems to be the way of the future. And something really valuable is being lost.

@zymenchlora sent me a wheel of WSU Cougar sharp cheddar cheese in a tin. I’m making mac and cheese with it. The local recipes call for not mixing exciting and just dumping it in a tray. Like a philistine. I saved some pasta water, used Keerygold garlic and herb butter with fresh cracked black pepper and some shallots in the bechamel, tempered 3 large eggs and mixed in, saved some pasta water, and mixed the bechamel with the pasta water and macaroni before putting it in stoneware to put into the oven. It’s baking now.
