The path forward isn’t about silencing white men. It’s about white men learning when, how, and why to listen. It’s about unlearning the reflex to lead, fix, or explain, and instead developing the capacity to sit in discomfort long enough to grow.Because the better world we all seek will require white men to become something this system never taught them to be…human.#MythOfWhiteSupremacy #LifeBeyondTheSupremacyMyth #BeyondMediocre #ProfitWithoutOppression #PWOCommunity #KimCrayton

Andrew Cuomo, who on paper is a Democrat and served as Governor of New York from 2011 to 2021, was just endorsed by Donald Trump.Pause for a moment and let that sink in.This is not an isolated incident. It is a textbook example of why white men cannot be trusted to do anything, without a consistent, demonstrated antiracist practice, but protect and promote the myth of white supremacy when confronted with accountability or consequences.

Phil Ochs captured this dynamic decades ago in the opening lines of “Love Me, I’m a Liberal”:“In every American community, you have varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally.”Cuomo’s trajectory embodies that lyric perfectly.

A Democrat by affiliation, he adopted positions and a persona that seemed progressive but when it came to personal survival, reputation, and power, ideology and principle evaporated. He didn’t resist the temptation to align with someone who represents the antithesis of his party’s values. Instead, he doubled down on self-preservation and the systems that uphold white male authority, regardless of the harm inflicted on others. This behavior is not new.

It’s a recurring pattern in the lives of white men in positions of power:✔️ When challenged or held accountable, they shift, pivot, and often betray stated ideals to protect themselves.✔️ When offered an opportunity to uphold justice or equity, they frequently retreat to self-interest.✔️ When the myth of white supremacy is threatened, their default is to reinforce it, rather than dismantle it.The Cuomo-Trump endorsement is more than political theater.

It’s a cultural signal: white male power seeks self-preservation first, principles second. And as long as white men are allowed to dictate the terms of accountability, justice will remain secondary to comfort, control, and maintaining supremacy. For those of us committed to dismantling these systems, institutions, and policies, the lesson is clear: do not be surprised, do not be complacent, and do not trust the promises of white men who have never been asked to truly give up power.

Accountability is not optional. The myth of white male supremacy will exploit hesitation, ideological cover, and liberal pretenses every time. If you’ve read White Women, Get Ready, you already understand one of Amanda K. Gross’s core truths:Whiteness, particularly white womanhood, relies on the fantasy of endless redemption. It’s baked into Post-Traumatic Mistress Syndrome:the deep, unexamined belief that white women must always be seen as good, pure, innocent, misunderstood, or redeemable, no matter the harm inflicted. And this belief doesn’t live in isolation. It is a feature, not a bug, of the myth of white supremacy.

Which brings us to MTG.White media is already bending over backwards to cast her as “self-reflective,” “evolving,” or “finally taking responsibility.”But let’s be absolutely clear:“Redemption” is a weapon of the myth of white supremacy. It’s used to demand that others, especially Black people, non-white people, and anyone targeted by her violence, perform forgiveness so that whiteness can return to its preferred roles: hero or victim.Never the villain.

Redemption maintains the myth.Redemption protects power.Redemption ensures whiteness doesn’t have to change and everyone else just has to “accept” the apology and keep moving. But apologizing is not a path to redemption. It isn’t even a path to forgiveness.Apology and amends are processes of repairing harm, not erasing it.Not escaping consequences. Not rewriting your character arc.

MTG did not “apologize” because she has shed the beliefs that animated her cruelty. She apologized because she finally tasted the violence she has spent years unleashing on others and, according to the myth she’s been groomed to obey, she believes she should never experience that violence herself. In her mind, and in the mind of many who benefit from the myth, an apology is supposed to reset the narrative.

It’s supposed to place her back into the center, back into innocence, back into the protection whiteness guarantees.White women have perfected this choreography because systems, institutions, and policies continue rewarding it.But here’s the truth that Gross names and that too many still refuse to confront:If your apology does not come with a full-throated denunciation of the myth that shaped your violence:You are not safe. You are not accountable. You are not changed.

You are simply repositioning yourself for continued dominance. And anyone running to embrace her, or worse, demanding others do, is signaling that they are not committed to collective liberation, only to the preservation of whiteness.Because collective liberation requires more than emotional displays. It requires material change. It requires consequences. It requires white people to interrupt their own mythology and confront the ways they weaponize redemption to maintain supremacy.

If MTG wants to be different, she can start by dismantling the very myth she still depends on for protection.Until then, she’s not transformed. She’s just uncomfortable. And discomfort is not liberation work…it’s the beginning of the bill coming due.#MythOfWhiteSupremacy #LifeBeyondTheSupremacyMyth #ProfitWithoutOppression #PWOCommunity #KimCrayton

As I watch the Olympic Games, I’m reminded of something many people still try to pretend isn’t true: sports in the U.S. have never been apolitical. The differences become even clearer when you compare the Summer and Winter Games.Summer sports are often rooted in teams, schools, parks, and community programs. These are sports that can be supported by neighborhoods, coaches, and public infrastructure. And because of that, you see far more diversity in both race and economic background.

Winter sports tell a very different story. When I watched 41-year-old Lindsey Vonn crash on the slope and get airlifted off the course, one of my first and lingering thoughts was, “who is paying for all of this?”The training. The surgeries. The rehab. The equipment. The coaches. The travel. The years of uninterrupted support required to make it possible for this white woman to keep going, to become the hero of her own story.

Meanwhile, millions of people in this country can’t afford basic healthcare. That’s political.Winter Olympic sports are largely individual or pair events that require personal wealth, elite exposure, proximity to mountains or ice rinks, specialized equipment, and years of private investment. They require a life where survival is not the primary concern. Where risk is sought out and survivable because financial ruin is not on the table. That’s not just athleticism. That’s insulation.

As I throw myself into watching sports like curling, trying to understand the rules and the lore, I realize something else…my interest in the Winter Games has always been from the outside.I’m watching something that is culturally, economically, and socially distant from my lived experience and from that of most people in my community. Not because we lack talent. Not because we lack discipline. But because we lack access.

The contrast between the Summer and Winter Olympics quietly exposes how systems, institutions, and policies shape who gets to dream, who gets to train, and who gets to fall without it destroying their life.So when people say sports are a unifying, apolitical space, what they really mean is they’ve never had to question who gets to be there in the first place. The Olympics don’t just showcase athletic excellence.
