@foone honestly, windows is hilariously stupid nowadays. We used to be able to easily control our hardware when we needed to fix something.

@internetarchive honestly, these companies are being absolutely reckless just for the sake of their own ego. Access to these older recordings has only encouraged consumers to seek out the higher quality recordings elsewhere, helping their enterprise out, but noooo, we gotta leech every last theoretical dime possible out of the consumer. All they're going to do is cause a 2nd burning of the library of Alexandria, thus harming themselves since research makes good music that they could be selling

@futurebird hear me out, buy them a plant that the cat *can* eat, with the express intent of the cat eating it.

@futurebird you know it is something interesting when the not-for-profit is the one fighting against the abuse of this tool

@internetarchive @brewsterkahle libraries provide free access to content that people would otherwise find impossible to obtain. For example, Angry Birds Space has been gone for roughly 5 years now, the only way you can play it is via libraries carrying a copy (or paying thousands for a steam key).

@stux this will most undoubtedly kill my chances of maintaining hardware. The people that cannot repair their shit, will try to replace it, and if they cannot replace it, they will try to steal it. I'm pretty sure theft at Best Buys will sky-fucking-rocket. (And if my thinkpad breaks down and I cannot fix it, chances are that I'll be among that population)

@futurebird exactly, I like to be able to absorb the finer details of a work, and anything that is AI generated, will forever lack that

@Methylcobalamin @stux nuclear isn't the problem at hand. (Also a fun fact, a lot of the negative stuff said about nuclear power originates from propaganda generated by oil companies)

@Methylcobalamin @stux again, this is not the fault of nuclear power itself, but rather the follies of others involved. Investigate what caused the incidents, don't just blindly use them as examples when the damages caused by other sources of power are worse on a global scale. Reasons why these incidents happened in replies.

@stux @Methylcobalamin exactly! Every single incident that you read up on, you're seeing negligence being the main cause of the incident, NOT the actual fuel source.
