Now, this isn't a joke, this is the historical truth, and the point here is not that Interpol was once run by Nazis and so it's tainted to this day; rather that it exemplifies the fact that police represent the inward-directed embodiment of state violence, directed by state policy.

One notorious war criminal - and one who escaped justice in murky circumstances - was Heinrich Müller, the head of the dreaded Gestapo ("Secret State Police") which was responsible for terrorising the population and pursuing the enemies - both real and imagined - of the regime. He wasn't an ideological Nazi, in fact he was historically an opponent, he was placed in the position he was because he could be relied upon to "just do his job".

Anyway, when people say that police aren't welcome at pride, or that all cops are bastards, one part of what they mean is that the police can be relied upon to enact state violence in accordance with state policies.If homosexuality was criminalised here tomorrow, do you think the police will hold hands, sing "Imagine", and refuse to enforce it? Maybe some of them will, but they'll quickly be purged and replaced with more reliable elements.

I'm not sure that satire is so useful when we talk about the role of police in society, because exploring the concept that the police are a weapon wielded by the state, that they carry out their duties without regard to whether the law is just, necessarily means talking quite bluntly about some of the most blatant and abhorrent examples.
