@witix@social.nano.lgbt Bots maybe? There are always plenty of bots trying to scrape websites for things like email addresses.Or more recently, anything to train AI on.Many bots also try to log in on pages that don't exist using default credentials for various programs (like wordpress).I assume these would all count as visits

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyohttps://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Androidhttps://github.com/signalapp/libsignalhttps://github.com/signalapp/Signal-ServerAGPL-3.0Yes, it is not part of the fediverse and it relies on github (both through the repo, and through rust (rust's package manager can only manage libraries hosted on github)).The application itself is free software.

@Gersonzao@lea.pet @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo that's true, you don't need to use a browser to clone any of the repos on github I'm referring to the fact that if you want to write a library for rust and make it downloadable through Rust's own package manager, you need a github account, which requires you to comply with their EULA, and lets them train their ai bullcrap on your code (which they'll likely do regardless of where you host it, but that is besides the point), and does require you to use their proprietary javascript (or maybe a proprietary mobile app, idk if that'd work)

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo sort of. The license does allow people to make forks or use the code in other projects.I was not aware that it uses proprietary libraries. I just installed a foss fork called molly (which gets rid of these libraries, without losing compatibility).Despite the fact signal relies on proprietary libraries (which seem to be present to interface with google play services, which is only possible if you've got those installed), I still think it is a good substitute for big tech messaging platforms. They are very much against sharing metadata. The fellow in charge used the following situation as an example; someone makes calls to a specific number regularly. One day they make a several hours long phone call to a hospital. Then they never call the number from before again. The carrier doesn't know what was said during the calls (probably), but the metadata already tells the whole story.I think this is an excellent example, so I thought it was worth sharing. Not sure if this is true, but someone told me that signal is holding back cross platform messaging because of privacy concerns in the proposed concepts for the protocol to be used. (iirc the person who told me this said the protocol is being designed by the EU government, but I'm really not sure. I'll have to look into that sometime)

decryption keys are not copyrightable, the dolphin emulator devs got the keys from a wii bios dump.they share a non-copyrightable part of the bios. if they distributed the bios they dumped, they'd be breaking the law, but they don'tCC: @dxcy@kitsunes.club @mari@catgirl.center

@eniko@peoplemaking.games creating your own engine is usually very helpful. No clutter or overhead from features you don't need, more independence, no controversial license changes (like with unity some time ago) and no licensing fees.I've messed around with unity and unreal in the past, but never made a proper game with either.I have however made a few small games or clones of simple games without an existing engine. I much prefer using SDL with some additional libraries to handle various file formats. Soon I'm going to spend some time learning opengl.

@qugalet@pl.m0e.space web browsers have become kind of a rabbit hole recently.some people don't trust mozilla anymore, so they started using other browsers that were based on firefox.some shenanigans about the end user license agreement. What it comes down to is that mozilla seems to track its users and sell info about their users, just like google.from what i've heard, zen browser, librewolf and waterfox appear to be popular alternatives.it sucks that most people can't just use a computer without being exploited in some way. i get that not everyone has the time to learn about all of these things.there should be more regulations when it comes to these types of things if you ask me

@kfh@chaos.social or sign urls in qr codes with encryption keys, then sign the content of the website with the same key.this could make it so a qr code would stop working when the domain gets a different owner.

@kfh@chaos.social would like to see domains disappear actually. most people just use search engines and qr codes to visit websites nowadays, there is no reason not to just use unreadable hashes and stuff.people shouldn't have to pay for a domain to be able to host something on the internet

@rl_dane@polymaths.social @dalias@hachyderm.io @khm@hj.9fs.net defines are handled by the precompiler, useful for macros and compiler flags. constants are actually part of the program, they can be pointed to and be returned by functions. things like creating a constant instance of a struct wouldn't work well using defines. not sure why someone would want to get rid of consts

@nicebyte@mastodon.gamedev.place pretty sure that's a feature. it's just a binary format. you can also use windows/wine headers and functions in elf binaries
