@Oregon_Pacifist @rufustheduck exactly, if everyone is on mastodon.social and if it goes down for whatever reason its just like being on a centralized platform, the point of decentralization is so there can be many instances of the fediverse run by different communities and individuals so that if .social goes down or closes up shop there will still be others instances out there catering to different communities and making up the ecosystem if the fediverse

The whole point of decentralization is so that there are many instances making up the fediverse but if everyone is one just one big instance and it goes down or closes up shop then thats gonna be the same thing as running a centralized social media site, find other instances on the #fediverse to make your home or if you have the means and know how start your own instance, either way dont put all your eggs in one basket

@KazuShuSora well lets hope the bluesky bubble pops and they all move here but I think open source and decentralized stuff is the future weather people like it or not unless they like being controlled on locked down sites where you need an account just to browse the damn thing. Just look at all the other big sites out there I'm amazed more haven't switch to the fediverse

@mischievoustomato @KazuShuSora yeah true and your right on that last part. What really annoys me is how all the big popular ones (X, TitkTok, instragram etc) are big because they are designed around addiction and being as addictive as possible like drugs. Here on the fediverse it honestly feels more claim when compared to those site and I wish more people would see that and adapt to it more
