(2/2) It's an unheated shack, which means all equipment & batteries would be subject to <0˚C 6 months out of the year. It's also 200 feet of an uphill trudge through snow (or shoveling), potentially ~4-5 months out of the year.It serves double duty as a bike and other workshop; meaning dust, metal shavings, etc., would be in close proximity to equipment.Thoughts? Better than just running feedlines ~100 ft to my house?Running utilities to & insulating shack are out of the picture. (2/2)

Dude going into conservative political rants & anti-trans rhetoric on the local repeater and the club wonders why new younger hams are not active on VHF and not appearing at club events. At least some kind soul started jamming him mid rant which gives me hope for the local hams. Presumably same person that has been jamming the repeater on other normal rag chews but at least they’re discerning?

@kc2ihx We all should take back the local repeaters. To be honest in over a year of scanning VHF locally this is the first time I’ve heard anything like this. More often than not I hear other folks trying to gently correct more mildly problematic political views on air so I think it just might be this one guy / a minority. But I am now listening to the repeater at a different time than I normally do so I’m wondering how much he and other folks like him dominate.

@kr1st @stephen So cool! I'm a ways off from getting involved in packet but the CATS thing has intrigued me ever since I first read about it.

What are some DX Cluster / Cluster tutorials? All I can seem to find out about it is "you use it via logging software" and very little other information. Like, how do I spot myself on it? How do I see spots? (The big DXCluster website that comes up in search results doesn't show me cluster spots that come up for me on HamAlert, for example). Big confusion.

Last night on my POTA activation, after 00:00 UTC, almost everyone wished me happy father's day.Which, don't get me wrong, was sweet and I see it as a kind gesture. But this morning I am wondering if they know something I don't. 😅

A close friend on a walk today: "Oh I keep forgetting to tell you that my dad's neighbor [two towns over] / my coworker is a ham radio guy. Big towers at his house and everything. Oh no, he's our age [under 50] and has plugs in his ears and tattoos. You two would like each other. I should introduce you two."Me: "What? You get on your phone and send a text and introduce us this very second!"

For Mac hams, what's your favorite free #APRS app?Currently using QTH.app and it's great, but want to know my options before shelling out $30 to be able to TX with it.

@croyle QTH.app seems very nice. But I'm a cheapskate. For mobile stuff I'm just going to plug it into an old Android I have lying around and jope for the best.

@PopeASDF @croyle Looks like a few years ago someone was able to build from source and it worked fine: https://klop.solutions/building-dire-wolf-for-macos/

@PopeASDF @croyle Precisely. I like the idea of building from source. But I seldom succeed so when there's already a package / formula out there I hop on it. 😂

@PopeASDF @croyle Well I got direwolf working and it's providing a nice little readout in the terminal, but now to find a GUI / client for it...

@croyle @PopeASDF I'm still working my way through the user manual-- looking at the live log in the terminal is fun as I imagine using CLI for 4337 hacker feels, but QTH.app is also so nice I'm very tempted to just pay the money, since it's going to another ham.
