@futurebird I cycle pretty much everywhere in town (4* win: helps my brain & body, better for the environment, WAY more convenient). The thing I most notice is that even though people bring their entire living room with them, including armchairs, the lizard-brain driving really comes with dark/rain. I think behind the windscreen people feel close to the weather and forget they're inside, so they drive erratically to try to get inside as quickly as possible. We're really not evolved for cars.

@futurebird @katzenberger at least now you could directly compare it to some of those god-awful Loop earplugs ads which at least are just, like, random children you don't see making a noise in a supermarket. "Other cultures disgust me" is a TAKE.

@futurebird @katzenberger I've heard good things - my brother's partner swears by them: they have 6 kids! I'm definitely tempted to give them a go. Maybe this ad is only in Britain: I find the voice really grating as it's so AI (so many of them are now and they all really make me itch) and it's on relentlessly. I assumed that because it was AI it would be global in different accents/languages! Maybe it's just targeting that it's getting me so much ...!

@futurebird I was trying to work out earlier whether candy canes and sticks of rock are the same sweet or not. I haven't tasted either in ages so I really can't with it out. But they're both kind of peppermint, kind of snappy but chewy... Hmmmm

@futurebird I have only experimented with ChatGPT once but... Same. If it felt more nitpicky and less emphatic, like a university professor, I'd feel more suspicious it was intelligent. I *know* I'm not right all the time. I *want* to be corrected. Sycophancy creeps me out.

@futurebird I am so glued to mine I think something with a slower refresh rate that's better for reading long-form might be better. And I'm running out of options for ones that fit my hands anyway so why not fully give up on a small one and just have a book 🤔I only ever buy second hand though and I wait until the battery basically can't hold a charge (I am part of the cracked screen brigade) so it'll be a while before this is an issue again...

@nazokiyoubinbou @babelcarp @futurebird I have been a dedicated Sony compact user for years, because my hands are small and they are the only ones I don't drop. They don't make compacts any more - the newer ones are just a *tiny* bit skinnier than any other androids. I found an old one of mine and I could touch my thumb and middle finger round it. I'm now in mourning, as I hold this phone (still a Sony, but no longer very compact) in two hands to type.

@futurebird I think it's a perspective thing - more that the call is coming from inside the house. It seems from the outside that achieving a certain "look" is a sort of purity test for MAGA women. In the same way that other cults require certain looks from their women - often it's more along the lines of skin and hair covered, but in this case it's big long fake hair, fake teeth, fake lips, fake nose, fake cheeks, thick makeup, impossible skinny. I am constantly shocked that Leavitt is only 28.

@futurebird @peterbrown according to the news agents podcast (they did two episodes from there) there is a network keeping eyes on unfamiliar cars, logging licence plates, turn up with whistles as soon as ice is spotted anywhere.
