I hear #Mastodon lacks a recommendation algorithm, but I've found that 1/3 of y'all are teachers and librarians, so I think we're going to be able to find things to read!I'm looking forward to following many more of y'all as I get settled in.#thankful for #librarians and #teachers

@twylo U of I is a terrific place to work, as a software developer. We became very remote-work friendly in recent years. It is a big organization, but departmental and research development teams tend to be small and operate with a lot of independence. @Ricardus I dunno. Unix philosophy is that tools should be tuned to their purpose.I would argue Mastodon's purpose is interaction and exposure to new ideas. We have other better ways to archive our histories. I suspect the Mastodon network will not be successful as an archiving tool.

Some of y'all are dear to me, but constantly bobbing into my feed between 7 day mutes for not using content warnings for politics.I agree with your politics, but my home feed isn't the space or time I dedicate to political action.If a longer mute period becomes available, I'll keep y'all in my feed longer term, because I love the other stuff you share.

I've added #Mario and #Squirtle and #Charmander to the #Arcade wall.The "Disk*8" in the arcade sign is in honor of the #C64, which started my love of #arcade games.

@mjgardner the answer to "does that indicate that they are young and/or inexperienced, or not actually a computer?" is always "No, and that question itself is gatekeeping in an industry where we desperately need less gatekeeping.".The only valid measure of edperience in this field is the speed at which one glances away and changes the subject when a code one wrote in the past gets mentioned.We are bound by our shared shame, and how much we hate Chris. Chris knows what he did.
