Sticking with the theme of political firsts, today’s lesbian role model is Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, former prime minister of Iceland and the first lesbian head of a national government anywhere. She was instrumental in cleaning up after Iceland’s financial crisis ten years ago. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jóhanna_Sigurðardóttir

Today’s butch-of-centre lesbian role model is Dr Karen Whitney, former President of Clarion University and a distinguished academic and university administrator. She doesn’t appear to have a Wikipedia page and this link doesn’t mention her being a lesbian but she has given interviews that mentioned her partner. https://www.academicimpressions.com/instructors/dr-karen-m-whitney/

Butch of centre is a common aesthetic for German women regardless of orientation. Nonetheless today’s butch-of-centre lesbian role model is musicologist Eva Riegerhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Rieger

Small mercy that the women at the paper can speak in protest about this guidance without fear of losing their jobs. @STILLTish

Living on the other side of the world it’s not really my place to opine about this UK election but I have thoughts. One is that it would be really good for GC feminists to get out in front of the narrative. “Conservatives only ones who weren’t going to prioritise GRA self-ID. It wasn’t just about Brexit it was also about woke fascism.”“LibDems should have been the destination for ex Labour voters disgusted with the anti-Semitism. But the leader lost her seat mainly because she couldn’t define woman. LibDems proves they were all for transladies and not at all for women. That’s why they didn’t pick up more of the Labour vote.”“Cherry and McAlpine won the SNP lots of votes from LibDems and Labour despite the party manifesto. Women who were paying attention to this noticed.”In politics, the narrative is more important than the “truth”. Get in front of the narrative.

Also “Jo Swinson should have won her dear but her anti-lesbian statements and refusal to support women tipped the result over the line. That’s why she did worse than her party overall.”Get these Narratives out there @LangCleg 😀

I tagged you in @LangCleg because I knew you’d understand where I was coming from. Yes, the thought of a Conservative government must be disheartening , devastating even. The defeat of wokeism – for that is what just happened – is the silver lining, the thing you can salvage. Consider not only Jo Swinson but Labour’s loss of Rother Valley. But for that to be a genuine silver lining, GC feminists need to get out in front of the narrative, ideally tomorrow. @AprilTui @Robotpuppy @SouerTeresa

The fact that BOTH Labour did badly AND Swinson lost her seat, despite her party gaining votes, must be emphasized. If it was just Brexit or Corbyn, Swinson wouldn’t have underperformed the rest of her party like that. The common thread is the way both parties shat on women. Get it out there, Brit sisters! @LangCleg @AprilTui @Robotpuppy @SouerTeresa

Hi @NightCrowThe point of my post is that strong in front of the narrative isn’t about “oh there could be other factors”. Of course there will be other things. STOP conceding the narrative when you have a golden opportunity to tell the world that Genderism is a vote-loser and an elitist misogyny project. @LangCleg @AprilTui @Robotpuppy @SouerTeresa

Following on from the UK election, today’s lesbian role model is former UK politician Maureen Colquhoun, a trail-blazer for the rest of us. Her biography, which includes being deselected for being a lesbian, is an eye-opener. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maureen_Colquhoun

Indeed @NightCrow I’m just saying that there is a difference between one’s intellectual understanding of what happened and the narratives one chooses to put into public discussion. There are so many reasons behind the result, including Brexit, Scottish independence, the economy and Corbyn, that affected people’s votes. GC feminists have an opportunity to put Genderism on the list of those issues, but only by getting ahead of the narrative NOW. LibDems gained votes but lost their leader. Pro-union, Pro-remain Scots could vote for either Labour or LibDem. There clearly was some vote switching from Labour to LibDem elsewhere, EXCEPT in Swinson’s electorate. See where I’m going with this?@LangCleg @AprilTui @Robotpuppy @SouerTeresa

Sure. I’m just saying that supportable isn’t as rigorous as you might imagine, when it comes to political narrative. @NightCrow @LangCleg @AprilTui @Robotpuppy @SouerTeresa

Lurking over on Mumsnet I found this excellent article. Performative wokeness can spiral so quickly in communities that are actually quite closed and important to its members’ sense of identity. But it turns out it’s also quite fragile, because nobody actually believes the shit they’re saying.I also read South Dakota has passed legislation through the lower house of its legislature banning medical transition for children. The very same people who swore that “nobody was transitioning children, giving them hormones performing surgeries, so what are you worried about“, are now screaming that these surgeries and hormones must be provided. (And that trans kids should have special dispensation to talk to certain adults in confidence- @LangCleg i know you’ll have comments about that.)But even more importantly, it turns out that there are at least 10 other states in the United States that are planning to pass similar legislation. And many of these bills have been championed by transgender adults themselves. Now I don’t know about you, but when I see so many state governments put up almost identical legislation that quickly and that close together, I see a deliberate political strategy. And I believe that this political strategy will almost certainly win the presidential election for Trump this year. Which is the intention.Proponents of this legislation have cornered the Democrats, including the two leading presidential candidates, into a purity war. The Dems will end up feeling that they have to one up each other, and before long they will be demanding mastectomy’s for 14-year-olds, and castration for 16-year-olds. Releasing all translady offenders from prison, that sort of thing. And the great swathes of mainstream America will say “WTAF?” and pull the lever for the Republicans or stay home. And when workers rights are curtailed and American women can’t get abortions, when the corruption of the political system reaches new heights, the circle progressives will be angry. But they will only have themselves to blame, because they prioritized the desires of a small group of privileged males over these things. They prioritized purity over electability.https://unherd.com/2020/01/cast-out-how-knitting-fell-into-a-purity-spiral/

Dear right wingers If you’re worried about all the kids transitioning, how about you engage in some preventative measures by supporting lesbians and promoting positive images of lesbians?
