We--my partner, my kid, and I--have 2 days left to decide whether said kid stays enrolled at her neighborhood elementary school or enrolls in a specialized gifted education program that offers services she very much could use in a different school.There are pros and cons. But the thing I can't get over is that the other school--the only place in the whole district where these services are offered--is in a no walk/no bike zone. As in kids are literally banned from #walking & #biking there.

This is a big freaking deal. We have always biked to school. We paid far more than we could afford for a house that made this possible. We have arranged our work schedules and lifestyles and vehicle ownership choices around the fact that our kid can ride her bike to school. Last day of #school. The kid's biking all the way home on her own for the first time.We've been practicing for this day for weeks. She knows the rules, knows how to handle her bike, knows to look out for drivers because they're not looking out for her. We can do this. Anyone who continues to argue that #COVID19 is no big deal really ought to have a conversation with my knees. But you'll have to wait until they come from under the ice bags they required after a 10 minute dog walk this morning.#LongCOVID takes many different forms. Which one would you choose for yourself? Personally I do not recommend chronic joint inflammation, but YMMV.

@OkayKay And then there's the sweet mil she donated to COVID vaccine research, followed by another million for pediatric infectious disease research, just because she could. Not to mention the countless low income high school music departments she's quietly provided funds for instruments and uniforms.If I ever win the lottery I'm giving it all to Dolly. TL;DR: how do you #podcast?My super nerdy kid has decided she wants to spend the rest of her hot summer break creating a podcast in which she teaches parents how to help their elementary aged #kids with #school.
