@niobleoum So if you cheap out and get one that leave visible layer lines, you can still spend a bunch of your time in CAD designing one custom (unless he has a scanner, in which case LOL this is an absurdly expensive project) and then have to spend time finishing and polishing on the back end? There is no way this was worth the 30 bucks, especially considering the end product looks and feels like cheap plastic

@niobleoum No amount of cope is going to get you to a place where an exact replacement doesn't cost you way, way more than the original 33$ part assuming OEM is something that's important to you (it shouldn't be, chinkshit equivalents for a fraction of the cost exist for most common appliances out there) in parts and labor, assuming you even have the right colored filament on hand. I use 3d printing as an actual tool in my day to day job and I can guarantee you the cost for a printer that doesn't put out absolute dogshit that's immediately identifiable as homemade from across the room is in the five figure plus range

@sickburnbro They still will, there's always going to be weird crevasses on there that require a degree of adaptability that robots can't do for a very long time. I can see one hammering out a bunch of hull or deck plates in an open area very quickly though

@deprecated_ii This isn't actually true, the relative number of engineers per capita in the US is significantly less than China or Russia. Russia cranks out almost double the number of engineers every year despite having like half the population of the US.

@deprecated_ii It's not true that the US produces excessive engineers. I'm willing to believe that we overproduce them and that we are graduating less per capita due to an anemic job market for engineers but it remains true that other countries make more engineers per capita yearly than we do
