What's funny about hovercraft is that they're kinda half boat, half plane. So there are signs aboard the Princess Anne saying "This door must remain closed during flight".Anyway, I want a hovercraft.

I don't like to harp on about these things; but I've just managed to get a Windows install running from a thumb drive, and that's...not great, but it's what I wanted to achieve.Because fuck Edge, the first thing I did was download the Librewolf installer. I had to confirm in Edge twice that I wanted to download it. Then I had to confirm twice in Explorer that I wanted to install it. Then I had to confirm with Defender that I wanted to install it.Jesus fuck, Windows got really fucking bad.

Now installing Kubuntu into a VM so I can copy the installation over to the same thumb drive.I do enjoy how it asks you to input a password, tells you it's too short if it's only 4 characters, but lets you use it anyway, because Linux don't really care.

We briefly glimpsed HMS Victory, best known for being where Lord Nelson died. Then winning the battle of Trafalgar. Victory is currently undergoing significant restoration work, so most of her is under cover to offer some protection from the elements. We didn't go aboard Victory because I wanted to visit the star attraction down there...

But the star down there is, by some margin, the Mary Rose. Sunk in the Solent in 1545, she was Henry VIII's flag ship. She was rediscovered in the late '70s, dug out, and brought to the surface in 1982. I remember the fanfare when the original museum was opened, but have never actually visited. So I was looking forward to seeing her. And I was genuinely moved by what I saw.

I dunno what it was, but at one point I just sat on a bench and looked at it for a good ten minutes. I guess it's knowing that a group of people - almost all volunteers - went to so much effort to find and recover her. And for what?Because it was important to them. And now this beautiful building has been put up around her, and they've spent 40 years washing out the salt water, then drying her out. She was finally considered to be safely dry in 2017. Just remarkable.

Something else I really enjoyed about the Mary Rose exhibition was how they used opaque perspex to ‘complete’ many of the artefacts that had been damaged beyond salvage.
