@freemo @futurebird @mike805 There are always reasons. Finding out i earned less than half of the next guy took away my motivation to even tell my manager about the improvements i had been making to the code (mostly repairing what my colleagues had screwed up).Demanding higher pay? I just wanted to go away, why bother fighting when the best outcome is that i would have ended up with 'average salary'. I feel much more happy in my new job with more open salaries. It attracts completely different people, who measure succes as being helpful to customers instead of by the size of their company-car.

@grammargirl That experiment really just summed up why this is so difficult:-we tend to think confidence implies knowledge (i assume because that is how conversations with friends go: you uuuuuuh if you do not know something)-even if we try to correct our way of thinking the tricksters adapt by throwing in a few token "i don't know"s to better emulate the uncertainty of real experts

@Moon @io There used to be a whole trend of professional opinion-havers taking those new terms (such as 'neural network' or 'selflearning') very seriously and spinning a whole sloppy argument out of their misunderstandings.Haven't seen that in a while, thankfully. But it did leave me with a kneejerk 'please only comment on tech if you can code' reaction

@tante I used to like it a bit just for schadenfreude. But now i'm tired and angry.None of them did it with genuinly good intentions, they wanted money and fame and knew (or should have known) about the problems.Screw them and their attempts to be hailed as a born-again tech-critic. I'll save my sympathy for people who noped out as soon as their boss told them to make the Torment Nexus.(And that goes beyond the tech industry: there are too many jobs where it is fashionable for people to spend the latter half of their career decrying the first half)
