@Nonilex They really should have written the headline "is ruining America" right?

@ElleGray This reminds me when I set up Word for my preschooler on a laptop who liked to type on a computer "like dad does". Except it kept making those red squiggly lines! Being smart she figured out you could right click and if you clicked the right line, the squigglys went away! Needless to say, that laptop became useless for writing as the spellcheck dictionary was FILLED with a lot of letter combinations!

@AmenZwa @dougmerritt I'm curious if they are "okay" with that? (That they can't read).

@heidilifeldman I agree that the note was nausea inducing, but in politics I wonder if he was just 'playing the player' right? It seems a successful way to get him to do something you want is to pander to his ego so that he *wants* to do something you want him to do.

@Nonilex Trump of course is in a bind, for whatever reason he always does Putin's bidding but doing so explicitly erodes his power and threatens his Presidency. As a result he always tries to split the difference assert "<threat>" in the future, but then either not follow up on it or change the rules, or move the date. Actually *doing* the thing would bring harsh reprisals from Putin (which he fears personally perhaps?)

@scott @rooster Oh I like that, and /opt = other peoples tools and /mnt = mostly not there and /dev = don't enjoy vibe. tty = this thing yeah? There could me so many things I didn't realize what they stood for! And of course /lib = let it be

@starluna @futurebird I am particularly struck by how many right wingers clearly saw some dystopian sci-fi at some point and said, "Ohhhh, I want that!"

@ai6yr @douglasvb Given that a steel mill doesn't normally produce Cesium-137, I'm super curious why it is radio active. It sounds a bit like the cobalt-60 bug when a Chinese steel recycler recycled a thing that had a C60 source in it. https://orau.org/health-physics-museum/collection/accidents/contaminated-pipe-fitting.html

@futurebird @Peace Pretty amazing and not exactly with "big brains" as they say 😉 At some point I believe we'll figure out what makes something a someone and we're going to have to come to grips with a lot of our choices over the millennia.

@neil If you're British I read that as "would you like to go out for lunch or coffee at some point." If you're American I read it as "We should celebrate with a fancy lunch or a fancy coffee break sometime in the future." But it is confusing without hearing the accent which way to translate it.

@futurebird Think of it this way, he might teach you the difference between "zero chance of winning" and "very close to, but not zero, chance of winning." 😉 I will confess that when it's over $750M dollars I do give up one soda a week to get a single, random, number pick. Until it goes back down again.

@Nonilex The reality is that Trump doesn't trust that the person signing isn't adding editorial comments to his words.

@jamesbritt @MLE_online This is true, it's Gilligan's style. That said, we lost a lot when streamers went with 6, 8, or 10 episode "seasons" versus a 12 or 24 episode season. Lots of world building can be done in parallel with the character development. I suspect there is an economic angle here that forces the writers to work like that. As for the show, I was kind of 'meh' on it, to many flaws in the 'real' world to keep my belief suspended.

I keep all my s00per sekrit documents on the VAX cluster because no agent today would recognize it if told to "seize all computers at this address." 😆 Not to mention, if that included ESP32's then it's gonna take awhile, just sayin'

@Nonilex When the CIA used to do this to create off books slush funds the people involved went to jail, this is no different.
