@grammargirl The whole concept of having to register to vote is baffling. I’ve been voting since I was able and never had to do anything other than be a Canadian.

@grammargirl I voted “Fine” before I looked it up on the basis of the verb being nouned in recent years. Then I found it had been nouned over a hundred years ago.

@grammargirl That first one is almost the plot of of @maryrobinette 's “The Spare Man” which would be “A complicated woman's husband becomes the prime suspect in a murder... in space!

@duponin Oh I know that one but even so scanning across three monitors across two computers makes it entertaining. :)And it used to be four monitors but I found that I bit too much.

@duponin I find I like three. Two for dev work as it's nice to spread out and one for communications (Slack, Mail, Mastodon, etc). Notably I also make heavy use of spaces on the individual monitors so I have a lot of different combos of screens depending on what I’m doing.

@duponin One thing I love though is how seamless it is to use two computers with one keyboard and mouse. Sometimes I forget it's two machines and try to move a window between them. I use two because I need be able to have two versions of one of our systems open at the same time as well as be able to run long operations on one machine and still get work done on the other.

@duponin That's very cool and if I ran multiple OS's would definitely be something I’d use.

@grammargirl We were surprised too. My partner was just randomly checking available plates on a whim and saw it. I got text asking if I was game for it and I of course said yes!

@grammargirl Reminds me of the old computer adage: There are two kinds of people, those who back up, and those who will.

@grammargirl I love etymonline.com! I use it enough I even have a browser extension for it. Also etymology for ‘forget’ is one of the cases where the origin meanings are perfect.

@grammargirl I’m about to go this route for my job. When work from home happened my department all got second machines for home so I have two desktops. I have a laptop on order now to replace both as we’re settling into hybrid work as our standard.

@grammargirl It’s not too bad as we use iCloud to sync all our data and I actually need two machines to keep certain workflows separate. I can VPN between the two to do different work as needed. For that I’m keeping my small laptop (a MacBook Air) to run side jobs. And yes my job gives me far too many toys. :)

Now that we’ve got the house down to one part time offspring we are fostering another dog. My partner couldn’t get the one she wanted as it was far too reactive to cats but now we have Holly. She’s a sweet rez dog but needs some training so is perfect for my partner who is working towards getting accreditation as a dog trainer. #DogsOfMastodon #Dogs
