And all recapped now, those last few were leaking quite bad. Now just setting up and installing System 6.0.8 on it.Even took the time to adjust the screen geometry to the correct 7.11" x 4.75" and had to tweak the magnets to get the bottom corner square.

Also played around with getting MacPPP and MacTCP working so I could connect this to the internet! System 6 is a little limited for WebBrowsers with only MacWWW in this case. MacWWW is limited it in does not support the Hostname field so only servers who respond at their IP address default will work.

@TechTangents Already following so the migration seems to have worked fine. Do wish older post history could be moved to the new profile, but I think that's just a mastodon limitation. (I put a link on my new account to the old one if people wanted to find the posts)

Since I do love modems, and it's #modemmonday I'll share one of my favourite chonks of a modem. A US Robotics Courier Dual-Standard 14.4k modem, in the original extra large case (not be be confused with the later Courier V.everythings and such). I've got a 56k Sportser on top for scale. It's a big modem and one of the few I have the original manual for.

@johnmacintosh Love the "camera lucida" type screen device there. That's a very clever way of doing that.

@TechTangents That's impressive they were able to miniaturize it that much. Also kinda surprising they didn't have their own HPIB interface IC (or at least a custom branded one) but instead use an off the shelf TMS9914 GPIB interface

@ncommander Always a fun thing when simple processes we take for granted use a sizable portion of the cpu. Noticed that a fair bit on my Mac IIcx with A/UX too

@ncommander Not sure if you have network, but could be worth editing rc.d to start up telnet or ssh or such and see if the system has booted but just has lost the console.

@ActionRetro odd request, but are you able to measure the outside diameter of the power barrel? Mine didnt come with it and it doesnt seem a super common size (at least lacking in my parts bin)

@ActionRetro As tempting as it is to put linux on it, it's also fun to have a CE netbook running the last version of CE (Windows Embedded Compact 7).Now somehow dual booting them...

@foone Even if just MS Paint or Paintbrush could export ICO and/or CUR files that would have been a fun change that got more people making custom icons

@foone I feel benevolent scrapers have already been targeted and squeezed out by large CDN and anti-ddos providers like Cloudflare. Unless you're big enough to deal with it's just likely they'll send your bot to capcha hell and kill it that well.

@foone Ah delay slots, the most annoying feature of RISC designs to be exposed to the programmer.

@foone Not Japanese, but I'd look into the Arabic or Hebrew versions of Windows 9x (and possibly even later ones), since those basically had all of the UI horizontally flipped, including having the "light source" be top right

@foone Supposedly the biggest number it can represent is around e308. (~1.79e308 seems to be the limit for Lua).

@foone Even that infinity doesn't carry the game forever because at Blind 38 the blinds you need to beat also reach `naneinf` and `naneinf` is not more than `naneinf` (nor is it less than or equal either) so you just lose

@foone and resized every time to each platforms desired display resolution or max resolution. So artifacts get scaled up and down which cause the artifacts to multiply
