Just finished the first Biology 101 journal club paper, "The honeybee microbiota and its impact on health and disease." Dig in Ohmies!https://gigaohmbiological.com/stuffI detect the typical reductionist approaches and models that attempt to isolate and control elements of our irreducibly complex natural world, with little to show for it.A few of the laboratory techniques used include:"Perturbation of the normal microbiota using antibiotics or other stressors, followed by phenotype examination. For example, honeybees exposed to tetracycline or streptomycin exhibit perturbed gut communities and increased susceptibility to bacterial and fungal infections."Genetic engineering of bee gut strains to include visual markers or resistance genes."Mark–recapture experiments with hive bees that enable examination of survivorship under natural, field conditions; forexample, honeybees were exposed under laboratory conditionsto tetracycline96 or a Roundup formulation151, then returned totheir original hives to investigate recovery rates and microbiotaresilience."None of these sound good, but that last one really raised the hackles on the back of my neck. The words "poorly understood," "unknown," "further study needed" crop up often. For example: "It is important to note that studies on microbiota effects on bee development and behaviour are challenged by the fact that larval development occurs under varying hive conditions, which have been shown to affect adult phenotypes. Moreover, we note that only some of these results have been replicated, so their generality among bee genotypes, microbiota strains and environmental conditions is not yet certain."

Florence Nightingale (circa 1860) gets it."SHALL we begin by taking it as a general principle–that all disease, at some period or other of its course, is more or less a reparative process, not necessarily accompanied with suffering: an effort of nature to remedy a process of poisoning or of decay, which has taken place weeks, months, sometimes years beforehand ...""Diseases are not individuals arranged in classes, like cats and dogs, but conditions growing out of one another." https://archive.org/details/notesnursingwhat00nigh/mode/2up

I've got lavender growing next to my patio. Very soothing for me to sit out there in the sun while bees buzz and hover, gathering sweetness.

I agree @entropyrider with one minor quibble: I'm not sure transfection can induce mutations in the patient's genome...more likely it disrupts gene expression, cellular regulation and communication.I'm not sure if a test exists that can detect the presence of transfected "spike protein" (or antibodies specific to it) distinct from all the other proteins that are in the background, whether or not the person was transfected.

Thank you for the link. He gives a powerful presentation detailing the abuses of children during the pandemic (isolation, masks); explains the bad science used to justify these measures; refutes the asymptomatic spread myth; discusses the false claim that shots provide superior immunity and denial of the superiority of natural immunity; enumerates risks of mRNA shots for healthy children, pregnant and breastfeeding women; criticizes policies of PHA Canada, their lies and misinformation based on fatally flawed studies; tells how he and his family have been harrassed and attacked personally and professionally for years (breaks down in tears). QA: answers questions about shedding and self-amplifying mRNA. Talks about possible reverse transcription of mRNA into DNA, potential integration into genome; also plasmid DNA contamination (mentions Speicher and McKernan).I deeply respect this man for his courage and integrity. I see no reason to speculate about his being "captured or being held in a state of confusion."

I was intrigued by @jjcouey 's comment in this June 30 stream that "it's starting to become very obvious to me that there's a historical gap between the time when Max Delbrück and Luria and these other people that were physicists were coming together under the pretense that bacteria and phages might be a way to get at the foundational rules of life..." https://stream.gigaohm.bio/w/sBcEfBWMkPisR3ZQmU6Qz6?start=19m45sBernard Strauss (University of Chicago, Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology) was a graduate student at Caltech from 1947-1950 when Max Delbrück ran the phage group there. In this 2017 article, Strauss details Delbrück's career, driven by a search for "biological phenomena that could only be accounted for by some principle akin to complementarity" (the paradox that light was both a wave and simultaneously a particle) formulated by physicist Niels Bohr in the 1930s.Strauss details a fascinating history that may help fill some gaps about what happened during the post-WWII period, when biology was hijacked by the Human Genome Project. "Delbrück had supposed that replication was the one area where Niels Bohr’s concept of complementarity (no matter how fuzzy) might find its realization in some nonbiochemical way. But when the structure of DNA was announced by Watson and Crick, Delbrück saw that, "For the coming few decades at least, biology was going to be explained by biochemistry, and Delbrück was neither interested nor qualified to contribute much to that effort." Delbrück was troubled by "the biochemists’ certainty that there will always be another protein to account for any biological phenomenon."Delbrück wrote: "It was obvious that you could do this kind of conventional biochemistry ad infinitum, and that it was enormously bewildering in the number of compounds that they handled; you had to learn a special language for it, but you didn’t really learn what I was interested in. Also the so-called biochemical genetics, the Neurospora genetics, that tied together genetics and biochemistry so beautifully, only highlighted the difficulty even more. You could learn an enormous amount about actual biosynthetic chains and their interrelations, but you did not learn at all how the enzymes came about; and if you say, 'One gene, one enzyme,' then the question remained, how does the gene make the enzyme, and how does the gene make the gene, and this was in fact not answered at all by any of the biochemical approaches."https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5499177/pdf/641.pdf

All hail the algorithm! Let the grant funding flow! Let the clinical trials begin!I watched a terrible movie called Medicine Man last night. In it, renegade scientist Sean Connery finds a cure for cancer made from a rare bromeliad that only grows high in the upper story of the jungle canopy. But he's unable to reproduce the miraculous serum until, joined by a feisty research assistant from the Bronx (Lorraine Bracco), they accidentally discover that the missing ingredient is provided by (SPOILER) ||a local species of Amazonian ANT.||

I appreciate The Ethical Skeptic's work. It seems to me is trying to direct the attention (of those willing to be shown) in a certain direction, in this case, toward strenghthening (but never proving) a null hypothesis which he formulates as follows:"Null Hypothesis: A Vaccine Reaction is a cerebral and immune system disruption of unknown magnitude and persistence."https://theethicalskeptic.com/2018/01/14/vaccinials-the-betrayed-generation-of-americans/"The null however is not assumed to be true in a hypothesis reduction (series of hypothesis feature tests and eliminations), neither in advance of nor after testing completion in which an alternative fails. Science is constantly seeking to modify, strengthen or falsify the null hypothesis."https://theethicalskeptic.com/2015/08/17/the-four-types-of-null-hypothesis-fallacy/TES has not (yet) taken on the challenge of disproving, modifying or strengthening Dr. Couey's assertion that "IM injection of any combination of substances with the intent of augmenting the immune system is dumb." He's also solidly grounded in the contagious RNA virus pandemic potential belief model. However, to his great credit, he offers an analysis of the CDC Wonder data that seriously questions their deceptive mantra about the safety and efficacy of vaccines.
