@fribbledom Wikipedia is such a great microcosm of society, too. There are definitely parts that are the equivalent of back alleys scrawled with graffiti and infested with flies and rats—but there are also parts that are extremely well ordered and pleasant.What amazes me is how much of the latter there is despite an extremely light touch from the "management"

@jwildeboer it's only a bad term because people misread its intent. It's not "put social distance between you", but rather "put distance between you during social activity". It's a little harsh to tell people to be ashamed for not anticipating the misunderstanding

@sir @vfrmedia a craft. It can be created from kits by amateurs, and as you learn the craft (which involves some science and some art), you can get closer to working with raw materials. At any point, you can decide you're good enough and it's fine. It can be practical or beautiful or both or neither.

@drq it's not "misleading" — the "as a service" model is openly and explicitly about users of software not owning that software. No one is hiding this or attempting to confuse anyone about it. "Not owning" is definitionally what a "service" isThis is a thing a lot of people and orgs want, just as a lot of people want to have their music library be a service rather than owning their music. No one is confused here, they just don't place a high value on ownership
