@wolf480pl Another project i volunteered on was building an anaerobic-digester from stock components,https://r-urban-wick.net/events/learn-to-build-an-anaerobic-digesterThe power came from two PV solar panels, and 1 heat-based panel. :DInputs are the food waste from ~90 people, and the energy from the panels, giving the outputs of fertiliser, and tanked methane.

@wolf480pl What sort of land is it?What's the population density? The humidity? The growing seasons? The differences in height?

@wolf480pl Also, you're talking with us here, so you have access to a space with some of those conversations. :D

@wolf480pl NP. TY. :DJust trying to get an idea about what suggestions i could make that would be practical/feasible for you. :DOne of the simplest ways of doing things for you persoanlly, would be to move to an urban area with a sufficient population denstiy to support a university. That's what i did. :DEvery city that i stayed in had a university, so there was always something interesting going on. :DThough that may not suit your personal circumstances.

@wolf480pl University towns/cities are always interesting, but not that safe right now, with the new Covid variants evolving. If you want to gossip about technology, i'm here most days. :D

@wolf480pl It was more to prevent the companies that owned the compiling software from putting constraints on the software developers. Some compilers, if you used them, the company that made the compiler owned the resulting compiled software. This is why Stallman compiled the first GCC twice.First to get a compiler that was functional, and the second time using the results of the first compile run, to create the GCC that was legally unencumbered by copyright claims. :D

@wolftune @witchescauldron When people are changing the way that they do things, so that your ideas/methods are becoming mainstream, then you've won. :DThe mainstreaming of your technology is what success looks like. :D

@wolftune @witchescauldron One of the main reasons that slavery lost, is that feeding/housing slaves when they weren't working was more expensive than feeding coal into a steam engine that could run 24 hours a day.Yes, the moral arguments existed on the fringes, but they didn't become adopted by the empires until the economic arguments had already won.Even then, it's a surface victory. There are still slaves on our planet, and it needs to be stopped.

@witchescauldron @wolftune Some of your replies are unhelpful.Instead of arguing about whether this situation exists, and, complaining about it not being discussed on mainstream media, start working on constructive creative solutions and document those.

@witchescauldron @wolftune The above link is just a glossary of the hashtags, but it doesn't give anyone a reason to look them up, so you're reducing your range of future conversations to the people who already know what you're talking about. This is a poor strategy, as you end up creating your own filter bubble, which is part of the problem you are complaining about.

@witchescauldron @wolftune The next post is another example:http://hamishcampbell.com/2022/09/26/focus-on-things-we-dont-actually-know-are-going-to-fail/It talks about the general problem, but it doesn't go into any specifics about the problems. You're just saying "Things are bad" without discussing potential solutions, or even potential ranges of potential solutions. If you can't state the problem in a clear succinct way, then we won't be able to start changing things.

@cy @pixelherodev @wolftune @falktx From looking at projects i've worked on in the past, while generating a profit for profit's sake, causes the damage we see when the losses are applied as "externalities", there is still the need to create a surplus of energy to reduce the natural effects of entropy. And, yes, buffers give you breathing space and increase resilience. :D

@wolftune @witchescauldron FLOSS has already won. Most of the server market has been almost fully FLOSS for the last couple of decades.Yes, each vendor tries to push their own specific flavour of the services offered, but the underlying technology is FLOSS.Whether that victory translates into Freedom for individuals, or just reduced costs for the sociopaths & warlords using corporations as a tool for repression and control, is another question.

@humanetech @mathew Any project that takes VC funding relinquishes ALL of their long-term business decisions to the VC's, as the VC's don't pay the money without ensuring that they get final say on every major decision.Blender managed to become FLOSS by being privately owned, and exiting to community. :D

@boilingsteam There are a few people where it's the simplest way to get in touch with them. It's not a viable long-term solution, as you're there at someone else's whim, but it'll do for now. :D

@Shrigglepuss I remember seeing something similar 12 years ago, where someone built a GECK from Fallout, using a Kindle reader with extra power storage, and a solar panel to charge it. :DThe Kindle itself was filled with all sorts of documents related to resilience, agriculture, medicine, and manufacturing. :D

@urusan Depends upon the underlying data-structures implicit in the choice of computer language you are choosing to use. :DC will give different results to ADA, to Java, to C++, to LISP, and that's without discussing the various flavours of dialects... :D
