       Looking for clarification on something. I am definitely one of the new people from #twitter #twittermigration and I came here because someone shared a screenshot of @Gargron displaying exceptional leadership and anti-fascism. However, after being here for about a day and poking around I saw there are a not-small amount of very toxic/bigoted individuals trolling other accounts. Ok, fine, that happens… but when I check their accounts, it seems like some of these people act like this without consequence. Then I decide to check something. I search for the hard N-word in the search bar. Surprisingly, there seems to be a lot of posts made with that word (including other words like r*pe) and some posts have been up for months and their posters are still active on the platform. - Does decentralized instances and moderation mean servers may exist on the Mastodon platform that are free use these words and it’s up to the user to block those instances?- If not, if I see a user who is currently active and has been posting the N-word (hard -ER) for months, does that mean no one has reported them?I’m asking these questions sincerely so I understand what sort of environment this is.#newbie #question #mastodon #fediverse

       @skobkin So to be clear, I’m not demanding anything. This should be read as me gathering info in order to cage my own expectations. That said, see attached screen shot. Being a Hispanic dude with tags like “socialist” and whatnot, I should expect to see responses like this. An openly trans person or Black activist even more so. Knowing that people who live to hate number in the millions, a system that has zero censorship of any kind would be incredibly hostile to marginalized people, right? Spending most of their time on the platform blocking and/or reporting hate, than having a positive user experience. As I type I realize my observations must be something that’s brought up a lot by newbies, so apologies if this is something people are tired of hearing, just a bit disappointed.
