@dave @jamescridland Same playbook as all the others... Step 1) Let's build a platform aggregate all this amazing content. Step 2) Let's use the RSS feed for aggregating the content. It's ubiquitous, free, and reliable. Step 3) Let's become the primary point of contact for the production and consumption of the RSS feed because "we have scale to grow the medium", and we're benevolent purveyors of enjoyment of the medium. Step 4) We can't monetize RSS very well! Commence subversion of RSS.

@dave @jamescridland Step 5) RSS sucks! It inhibits X(creators, consumers, advertisers, our aggregation of the value stack)! Step 6) Let's create an "Open API" of our RSS dependent platform and allow open access to "cool/new features". Step 7) Let's close our "Open API" to control its use by "approved" applications. Step 8) call PR agency and have them write an article titled "RSS is Dead". Step 9) Repeat.

@james Anointing with oil is found a several cultures and can at least be traced to the Egyptian Pharaohs who were anointed with oil, staves of power and authority and given regnal names.

@js "focus on garnering audience wherever it comes from"... It is garnered the world over using a centralized RSS feed. Maybe he understands that and is making an argument that we need to move passed the RSS feed because that's how content is distributed (by all the consumption channels he mentions) and we should stop debating that fact because it's no longer up for debate....

@js Or maybe he doesn't understand that? Any distribution strategy that only has one distribution partner (instead of infinite distribution partners through RSS feed) isn't actually a distribution strategy, it's an employee/employer relationship.
