A fine episode 918 @grammargirl !Do you think “dropping an album” might be tied to “needle drop” on 33/45 RPM phonographs where the term meant starting a record or a particular track - or the later term for royalty payments for radio station playback? And for TV series, a friend who works in that business has always said that when the season airs, the production crew goes on hiatus waiting to hear if the network will “pick it up” again - or drop it.Keep up the good grammatical work!

@grammargirl Does the sunshine and fresh air make you less ruthless with a red pen?

For @grammargirl and friends - One of my all-time favorite typos occurred in an SF Bay Area newspaper back in the 70s. I memorized it then -“For Sale - 1 1/2 ton wench. Lifts anything.”My reaction was, “I’ll be she can.”#typos #proofreading

@grammargirl What was even funnier at the time was that I was heavily involved in the Northern California Renaissance Faire and you couldn’t walk ten paces there without hearing someone say or shout “wench.”(no equivalent moniker for dudes though )

U.S. regimental sporting club in the Dakota Territory - meeting minutes from 1873 will say,“… the question was decided in the affirmative."and“… this motion was negatived."It’s a new one on me that sounds like dude-speak from the 1990s (and I’m certain of the spelling)@grammargirl @fridlandvalerie#words
