@arstechnica Hopefully the employee has taken his work to a more worthy employer.

@arstechnica I would like for it to find the petition I misplaced.

@arstechnica In this case, if the cave people had clear title to the cave, they had every right to defend themselves against the intruding bears according to the castle doctrine (even if castles hadn’t actually been invented yet).

@arstechnica Unfortunately, this may start a trend with other services due to “inflation” (although I realize that tech service companies are still recovering from supply chain issues).

@arstechnica Unfathomable that this is still being debated.

@internetarchive I guess I should hurry up and finish reading “Benny, King Of Swing” just in case.

@grammargirl That is intuitively true, as someone who has tried to learn a bunch of languages. My brain is not big enough for two languages.

@internetarchive I certainly hope so, though I’m not sure, via the news reports, if the lawsuit will affect the books I’m borrowing—old, obscure, out-of-print, and with no available ebook (sorta like me).

@lowqualityfacts But most are choosing to stay due to the housing shortage.

@lauren He runs Twitter as his personal information fiefdom. That he replaced the bird with a dog is emblematic.

@edgeoforever @atrupar Very true. Nothing but nonstop hype for two years. It was enough to get him a bump in the early polls.

@nina I think it’s excellent. Annette Hanshaw is a somewhat obscure singer that I collect, and I discovered your film after searching for her music on archive.org

@lowqualityfacts I once got an Orbea variegata to bloom; it smells like decaying flesh. (This could be regarded as an adjacent fact.)

@rob11563 @TonyStark @Green_Footballs I read the RFK jr 2005 article in Salon regarding autism and vaccines, and he was so persuasive that I thought he was right. We now know he wasn’t, but he did permanent damage to the vaccination cause. He’s since doubled down on the issue, and it overshadows his “good” positions elsewhere. I don’t trust his judgement (or the judgement of social media moguls who promote him).

@MattFerrel @rob11563 @TonyStark @Green_Footballs Per Wikipedia, he seems to be a strong environmentalist, very active in this area; represented the NAACP and has “argued that poor communities shoulder the disproportionate burden of environmental pollution”; supports indigenous rights; has fought factory farms; believes we should transition from fossil fuels; opposed the Iraq invasion. Surprisingly strong record—except for vaccines.

@MattFerrel @rob11563 @TonyStark @Green_Footballs After the vaccine-autism argument, I tuned him out and basically ignored him. So I knew little about him. He’s remembered now as that anti-vax guy. He used his celebrity to intervene in an area he was not medically qualified to and did a lot of damage, and few people now remember his strong progressive work in other areas.

My contrarian opinion on #ArtificialIntelligence: AI can revolutionize medicine and maybe even solve the climate crisis. AI excels at processing “facts” in an interdisciplinary way with far greater efficiency than endless committees and scientific papers. When applied to scientific problems, AI can produce breakthroughs. When applied to people, AI will have all the insight and grace of an Elon Musk, multiplied, because AI, like Elon, is not sentient.
