I can tell by the tone of the posts that none of you once dreamed of a magical future television with a sharp picture, no static and no vertical and horizontal hold issues.

I grew up watching black and white, pan and scan movies of the week and sending my little brother out to turn the antenna so Im okay with that or some widescreen fancy thing that needs constant updates.

You can still get dumb TVs. Or just watch on a bigass big computer monitor. That's what I do.

we would get maybe 2-3 channels at a time. once in a while dad would climb the 40 ft antenna tower and turn so we could pickup a couple different channels options. i think maybe pbs so i could watch some sesame street in the summer. later we upgraded to an electric antenna rotator. we had a party line landline phone, shared with 3 other neighbors. when a call came in everyone answered to see who the call was for. also, had to pick up to see if someone else was using, so you could make an outgoing call. one time my family caught a phone guy in the area and was able to get him to move us to a line that was not being used, our private line. no running water in the house, outhouse in the winter teaches you to take care of business quickly. big tub filled with stove heated water for baths. later we upgraded to indoor plumbing. i told my 4th grade teacher i wanted to be an astronaut and travel to the planets. she told me that was not happening, i thought she just did not have an appreciation for my abilities. maybe she knew that we were going to take a 50 year hiatus from space travel. nowadays i can watch videos live or on demand of spacex launches in 4k via gig plus internet on the big screen while laying in the hot tub. good times growing up but no desire to go back. i want my jetsons automated flying car!

I've only read about party lines. I'm not sure they existed in the suburbs. Plus everyone had indoor plumbing.

On a party line each house had its own unique ring pattern, a combination of long and short rings. To call someone on your same line you dialed their number then hung up. If it stopped ringing after a few rings you picked up the phone and were able to talk to each other. If it didn't stop ringing you picked up and hung up again to end the call

yes, most in my generation would say the same. the only people i've known with a partly line are those neighbors we had. i don't know of any kids from elementary school that did not have indoor plumbing, might be a couple not sure. the life story implies i am older than i am. life as a farm kid in the poors i guess, but ALL White and good times. the party line memories really stand out for me. although i was fairly young i still remember our phone number. one of the neighbor ladies was prone to talking excessively, if someone needed to make an important call you had to pick up and tell her to get off the line. you also had to watch what you say because the neighbors could/would be listening. lol
