I’ve heard all of these sorts of claims regarding the ahistoricity of the OT; my general policy is to take documentation closer in time to the events described as more authoritative than modern interpretations and interpolations of archaeological findings. Nevertheless, even if the OT exaggerated details about the grandiosity of the Unified Israel under David and Solomon (doubtful imo) it doesn’t change the fact that Messianic Prophecy was fulfilled so thoroughly and completely in Jesus Christ, in documents written centuries prior to His Incarnation - demonstrating agency far beyond what mortal Man is capable of.

I don’t honestly claim to know exactly what Enoch is, but it’s my understanding the literate folks in the Ancient World were familiar with it, and regarded it as sincere history - even if there may have been factual / timeline errors. This is true though of any historical work. Whether it’s “plagiarism” or not is not really terribly important, imo; as every emergent culture that takes history seriously is going to reinterpret received history from earlier cultures into their own paradigm. The OT is not the oldest ancient text we know of; but it‘s familiar with pre-existing Traditions like the Fall of Man, the Great Flood, the Tower of Babel etc etc - but it synthesizes these into the very Narrative that presaaged the Incarnation of Christ, the fact of which puts it on a different level from technically-older tellings of those events. At the time, it’s entire possible the society responsible for penning the OT had no idea the broader intention of the documents. It appears The Prophets largely did - but they were overwhelmingly misunderstood and reviled by the ruling establishment of the day. And the common folk looked forward to the Reconcilliation of Heaven and Earth - likely with simpler mental imagery than the educated-class but the basic gist nonetheless. But anyone funding the writing and preservation of these scrolls had a very different idea of what they meant - and there expectations proved to have been entirely subverted.

Didn't Origen criticize Marcion for prohibiting allegorical interpretations of the Old Testament, as in having a literalist interpretation of it? Hence why Marcion wrote the Antithesis, now lost, because he read the Gospel literally AND the so-called Old Testament, hence his conclusions and the canon he developed. I could very well be wrong about BC historians being broadly familiar with Enoch; but it’s really just a historical curiosity of mine and not a religious mandate. It colors my sense of the mindset of the age - but doesn’t form the foundation of my religious worldview. Y'know what, nevermind, but the thing that terrified me the most in any "Exorcist" film (I will not specify) when I was a kid was related to idols and theurgy and the zealots of a certain Church talking to me about it too when I was way too young. I knew about stigmata too long before that stupid 90s movie I never watched or will watch came out. True story: I got dragged to be blessed on my BIG forehead by Padre Pio's glove. The whole time I was thinking "I don't know about this... I don't wanna do this... Nonono..." then I saw the glove and I thought "WHOA, that looks like Freddy's glove without blades on it, COOL." Then I accepted Fate...on my face, literally. I guess I was supposed to be a thaumaturgist, but all that theurgist stuff mentally scarred me mentally. My worst nightmare is.... nevermind.

Fuck, I forget that Russian academic's name, but I actually read his book years ago and it's frankly blasphemous against our Lord.
