I always thought they would suck blood until they burst, and spew hundreds of baby ticks. Now I'm not so sure they don't lay eggs somewhere, but the gorged condition is still the end of their life cycle. I drop them in rubbing alcohol when I pick one off myself or find it crawling around. It's hard to kill them before they are ready to die.
