Theory 2:Last month when some of my ants escaped a few of them went on a journey to the courtyard and met a carpenter ant colony there with a few queens they were getting ready to fly for spring. My pet ants were shocked to learn of their hard life "you don't have a sugar feeder?" etc. and the wild ants asked if they could send up one of their queens who wasn't really up for a stressful founding. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this ... I've found no other ants!

I'm sorry but how does a queen ant end up on my desk... under my keyboard ... right after her nuptial flight, but there aren't a bunch of other ants around anywhere?I checked the roof, the fire escape, the front and back gardens. I live seven stories up. She came in the window on an unseasonably warm spring day last week. Carpenters do sometimes have mini nuptial flights in spring. But they have bigger ones in summer. If this didn't happen to me I'd think it was fake.
