I love this youTube channel.Watch:* a springtail eats a thin layer of orange goo from a translucent slime mold. (this sounds gross but it's beautiful)* a small globular springtail dances for a larger one, they tap antennae * Soft tiny springtails hide under larger bumpy springtails. There is so much going on right under our feet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prbyvzZNf0

@ppscrv I had no idea they had such interactions. I guess I thought they just wandered around and ate things, but of course they need to find a mate, or simply know who else is sharing the moss patch. There is some spark of life experienced, even at that scale. They are the size of grains of sand. When ants show up in these videos they are like titians.

@futurebird Well, thanks. I will never go outside anymore. Next you’re going to tell me there in my home as well. Ack! I’m going to watch it again.

@NatureMC @frankashwood Maybe Frank will know who this is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prbyvzZNf0The first creature is like a living moss-wizard's hat made of translucent scales. Then you have a mite that is basically Darth Vader's helmet with legs.WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE MOSS? These things are just happening every single day and most people don't even know about it. That blows my mind!

@Olson They do not bite. They are gentle. Also this kind of amazing diversity is what you get in a nice old forest at the base of an old tree covered in moss. This diversity is becoming more rare. It's a fairy kingdom and we'd replace it with ... nothing.

@futurebird @NatureMC @frankashwood So much of this behavior reminds me of cats.Theory: cats are actually large bugs.
