Does ANYONE know what the mysterious "very valuable" present that Trump claimed Iranian negotiators sent him was yet?The best theory I've heard is Iran let some boats through and maybe someone told Trump this was a "gift" or show of good will for him when it was not?I'm so curious what he thought he was talking about.

@futurebird These days I almost wonder if someone just gave him a blatant emolument and he's just bragging about it since he already knows he can directly break such laws now without consequence.

This is like a good macguffin in a damn movie. I'm a little obsessed with what it was. He says they "sent" it to him and it "arrived" so, IDK if the boats idea really works?Did he just make it up and that's why he won't tell us what it was? This is "Canadian Girlfriend" level stuff.

@nazokiyoubinbou Yeah that makes sense. Just a big 'ol bribe and it "showed up" in one of his offshores and he was impressed that he was talking to someone important?... if he is even talking to anyone.

@futurebird I'm not seeing the original post. How compatible with his wording is "in early-mid 2025 negotiators sent him a gold watch and he's still thinking about it, he's still thinking about that gold watch"

@futurebird Sometimes I get these uncomfortable feelings of embarrassment for Trump, like oh my god dude this is some sad stuff. This whole ‘actually I’m not chickening out we’re actually winning and they want to talk to me and its going really well and really great and they gave me a present' thing is just so humiliating. So yes, I think it's completely made up.

@futurebird @nazokiyoubinbou Interesting idea that the "someone" might be say Pakistan, someone who wants to see the talks succeed. Slip the money to him, make it sound like it is indirectly from Iran, wink-wink.Iran continues to protest and demand, but now he understands that wink-wink they really are ready to settle. He declares victory yet again and brings the troops home.

@nazokiyoubinbou @jakebrake Random reporters have his number and he talks to them with no one verifying who they are all the time. Very easy to social engineer someone with that much power and just... a regular phone number.

@futurebird When my grandma was nearing the end, she would tell me about this parrot that the lady across the hall from her room had, and how it was really loud and said bad words. She got really animated and talked a lot about it.So once when she was resting I went out to see this parrot, wide eye amazed someone would be allowed to keep a bird like that in a nursing home. I was really looking forward to seeing it too. Apparently it was big and red, maybe a Macaw? So I went up and down the hall, peeking in rooms looking for this bird. Not able to find it, I went back and asked my mom about it.She pulled me aside and whispered, there was never a lady, and never a parrot.

@futurebird I’m sure they sent him something brand new! Or at least nearly new. Certainly less than 18 years old.

@mariasy @dgold Yeah. I feel like this is the cover story for a few very embarrassing possibilities:1. The president was talking to people just posing as Iranian negotiators. They sent him some god awful golden thing and he was impressed. 2. The president made the whole thing up because to him "they love me" means "they send me gifts and prizes"3. The president was talking to some tangental person who sent him a huge bribe.

@futurebird Donald Doofus lies like it is out of style. So, if he said that the Iranians gave him a gift, we should take the opposite of what he said, and assume they didn't give him anything... That idiot in the Oval Office, is losing the rest of the small part of brain he has left. If he hasn't lost it already.

@futurebird @crow I don't think it's lack of public recognition — he got too much of a very wrong sort and I have little doubt he managed to get a few awards one way or another *cough money.*Well, I haven't exactly done a deep dive into the man's life (in the same way I haven't done a deep dive into Hitler's life because vomit) but I'm under the impression his biggest problem was probably his family. They were probably like him to his kids.

@nazokiyoubinbou @crow Yeah. You are probably correct. Though I would suggest it's more about an absence of consequences. Some of the most difficult children I've worked with have been those with inconsistent parents. They might get showered with gifts for no reason, or later their acting out is ignored. They might get yelled at for no reason too. This is VERY abusive and might lead to a kid who acts out more, or a kid who gives up and drifts.

@futurebird @crow I'll admit I definitely don't know the specifics, but certainly everything I've ever heard seems to confirm that he definitely didn't grow up under the best of parenting. And I think you're right. I mean, we *know* his whole empire was started with a *LOT* of free money from daddy. My suspicion is that they just tried to buy into life for him without worrying over piddling details like love.
