Had meeting with editors. Received some good advice and worked out some goals and nuances of my writing. One thing they recommended I research (in light of my male-dominated audience and genre) is Royal Road. I see @Tactical has an account there, but the head editor's description of it as "Wattpad for men" stays my hand. Said editor understood Wattpad's negative connotations and was hesitant to describe Royal Road in such a way, but it conveyed the idea. The editors also pointed out the uniqueness of the ideas in my story and its world. Head editor mentioned my two main options as "adapt the story to magazines where I want to publish" or "take the self-publishing route and market things myself". I would like to do both, but considering past rejections, I wonder if I should start focusing on the latter.Should I start publishing my sword-and-sorcery stories on Royal Road? Should I play my cards closer to my chest? Cc: @flux_the_cat @SuperSnekFriend @karna @BowsacNoodle

@nine2fivestudio tbh i have never heard of royal road or wattpad before so i cant comment much on that.. but regarding zines and publishing houses, have ypu heard of the bizarchives by dave martel? idk if it completely aligns with your genre with its pulp leanings, but from what i have seen dave is probably open to sword and scorcery https://thebizarchives.com/content-guidelines/

They seem to be the kind of thing I seek, though a bit darker than what I'm writing. "Grimdark" is a bit too grim and dark for me. I'll try submitting, though, and see what they say. Thanks for the tip!

@nine2fivestudio @Tactical @BowsacNoodle @flux_the_cat @karna Why don't you do vignettes and samples for Royal Road while pointing readers to full publications?

I could! The challenge there is as follows:- Royal Road seems better for ongoing projects, usu. w/ chapters- I write short stories (<10k words); I've no desire to do longer forms- Samples of an already short work would be difficult to select- I don't write fiction as often as I could, and having a "full publication" may take some time without nose-to-grindstone disciplineBasically, I would have to keep up with things enough to be far, far ahead. Thus far, I only have two stories, a third in progress, and ideas for two more, and I started taking this sword-and-sorcery project seriously a little over a year ago.

My answer is to stop thinking about it, publish it, and move on homie, don't agonize over it. I've done like 10 book releases and the best advice I can give you is to just do it.

       > pulp novel it / do a collectionI was thinking about that. Are you suggesting I publish it on Royal Road? Should I do a "sample" there and point people to a more full anthology elsewhere? Are there any cheap publication options that don't involve Amazon/KDP?
