Relatively cheap orbital rods destroying aircraft carriers, means the American South can secede and arrest all FBI agents.

@StarProphet Too bad those "relatively cheap" rods from god are over $150M a shot. Now maybe with a SpaceX designed rod they could get that down a bit but they are not cheap at this point.

@mhjohnson "Too bad those 'relatively cheap' rods from god are over $150M a shot."Mass produced Starlink satellites are $500k each. And China is copying that mass production. This isn't DEI-addled managerial corporations like Boeing and Lockheed Martin, whose bespoke satellites take 7 years to build.

@StarProphet A Starlink satellite weighs a lot less than a rod from god. The primary cost is the $$ / pound to get that rod into orbit.Just search for rods from god cost per shot or similar to see the numbers I am quoting from.Like I said, maybe SpaceX could figure out to design one that could survive reentry intact so they could weigh less - but I haven't seen that yet.

@StarProphet Oh, you don't need to go to that much trouble. Microdrone swarms with AI guidance could take out the top 1000 string pullers in an hour. After that the rest would be heading for the hills and every state could secede.

@StarProphet I was reading about the Iranian drone they used to take down at least one F-35. It uses infrared to lock onto the specific heat signature of the F-35's engine 15 miles out or less then on final approach it uses image recognition to separate the fighter from any decoy flares. Unlike radar both methods are passive so the fighter pilot might have no idea what's coming.

@judgedread @StarProphet Given how fast the technology for humanoid robots is advancing, an infiltration unit designed to get close enough to detonate or shoot its target is definitely going to be designed by someone at some point. It might, might, be good for one or two successes at top targets, but they would always be a threat to people worth taking out but not important enough to keep sequestered and surrounded by security. And there are a lot of middle and upper middle targets that will be completely vulnerable to something that looks human that can just walk up or walk by and do its business.

@petra @judgedread @StarProphet Hunter-killers have been in the cards for a while now. We may be entering a period where there is no sitting behind walls of distance or men for those calling the shots.Everyone participates now.

@judgedread @StarProphet IIR/EO Imaging Infrared and Electro optical terminal guidance. Very effective. The only way this could be countered is via a laser dazzler being introduced. That is not common on aircraft at all due to power requirements. F-35s engine runs really really hot. Like hotter than they expected when developing it, so it's more vulnerable to IR defenses. Those are inherently short ranged, but the Houthis showed the way. Wait for the aircraft to conclude it's mission, then when it's outbound and bingo on fuel, ambush it with an IIR/EO seeker missile or even several. The pilot then has very limited options due to fuel concerns, he can't do any high energy moves because he'll burn through what fuel he has in no time.
